Military strategy, when generalized, has been around as long as human beings have.

If you're looking for books on the subject, my two favorites are Sun Tzu's "The art of war" and Robert Greene's "The 33 strategies of war". The latter is my favored of the two.

I'm going to go with Sun Tzu also, he is the first to document strategies but by no means did anyone invent it. It always existed for those going to war, or having a conflict over something. Tzu's work is not only applicable to armed conflict of armies either, it can work in psychological or diplomatic conflicts as well.

There has always been some kind of military strategy, since the beginning of war the other side has been thinking of ways to take out the other.
