Got an Automatic 03 Nissan Micra (getting rid of it in a few weeks fingers crossed), but in the last few days it's developed a problem.

To get it out of 'Park' normally you put your foot on the brake, press the button on the side of the gearstick and move it into Drive/Reverse etc. In the last couple of days (more so in the evenings), the button is getting stuck halfway and won't go all the way in, so i can't put it into gear. On average it takes a about 4 or 5 goes of releasing the brake, pressing harder etc before it will depress fully so i can move it into gear. Once it's in gear there's no problem changing between drive, reverse and back into Park. The problem is only when the car is first switched on and I have to put it in gear.

Anyone got any idea what's wrong, why it's started all of a sudden, how I can get it fixed etc? I'm planning on selling it soon and I don't think anyone's going to want it with a dodgy gearbox!

right i'm female and don't know a huge amount about cars - jargon doesn't help! I will not be repairing this myself - dismantling cars is a bloke thing.

and i did say it's an 03 (as in the year 2003) micra. Not sure where you got 93 from.....

Park interlock solenoid is at the base of the shifter handle. Sometimes I wash out out coffee Coke and other sticky beverages. Glass cleaner and compressed air. Those sticky substances get even stickier at cooler temperatures. So while selling the car make sure the car is fully warmed up and interior toasty warm. And check to see if the brake lights are turning on and off properly. After it is sold you can say your just a Girl and don't know what they are talking about it worked just fine for 5 years. Then tell them the name of the nissan dealer. By the way It might still be covered by powertrain warranty or ask the dealership if you can get the shifter mechanism covered by Nissan Good Will.

It could be the torque converter is going to pack up or ,The other thing is to have it serviced an get the garage to put it right then you when you sell you will have peace of mind and a satisfied customer ,nb it could be just a slight adjustment that cost few pounds to put right
