Sloppy Joe Sandwich
4 teaspoons olive oil
1 medium onion, chopped
2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
1 medium red pepper, chopped
1 small green pepper, chopped
1 stalk celery, chopped
2 pounds ground beef chuck
1 can (28 ounces) whole tomatoes in puree, chopped
2 tablespoons light (mild) molasses
1 tablespoon cider vinegar
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
6 hamburger buns, split
In a nonstick 12-inch skillet, heat oil over medium heat. Add onion and garlic and cook until onion is tender, about 5 minutes.
Add red and green peppers and celery and cook until tender, about 5 minutes. Stir in ground beef and cook, breaking up meat with side of spoon, until meat is no longer pink, about 5 minutes. Stir in tomatoes with their puree, molasses, vinegar, slat, and black pepper and heat to boiling. Reduce heat and simmer until sauce has slightly thickened, about 10 minutes.
Place split buns on plates and top with Sloppy Joe mixture.
or you can use other types of bread preferably something crusty and you can also top with cheese (melted is best)

This question cracks me up, but of course you don't know wtf it is. It's a common cheap easy meal in the US, kids love it. It's a home type of food, I doubt you'd ever see it on a menu anywhere.
Basically it is just a tomato seasoned ground meat cooked on a skillet and served and eaten on a bun like a hamburger. It's similar to a shepards pie filling without the veg. They are very messy to eat, hence the sloppy part of the title.
Basic ingredients: ground meat, tomato paste/sauce, oregano, S&P, chopped onion, chopped green bell pepper, Worcestershire sauce, and little brown sugar to taste if needed. I add some hot sauce sometimes as well, depends on your taste. I vary the dried spices I toss in - just use what you like that goes with tomato sauce. BBQ sauce is a good addition too.
You can use ground beef or ground turkey. Here in the states they have the mix that you add to the ground meat ready to go in a can. I change the recipe almost every time I make it depending on what I have on hand in the pantry, it's a very adaptable meal. I attached a link to a basic recipe, but you can improvise a bit, it's all good.
Enjoy!

Okay I have this really awesome sloppy Joe recipe:
1 pd ground beef
1 small can tomato sauce
1 small can ketchup
1 tablespoon vinegar
2 tablespoons brown sugar
squirt of mustard
This recipe is a favorite in my house and I sometimes use more brown sugar it just depends on my mood. Brown the ground beef, I generally brown with a bit of minced onion and once browned add all the other ingredients and let simmer for a minute. At my house we toast the buns and add cheese, they are really messy but ohhhh so good!

A sloppy joe is basically a meatball sub with the meat ground up instead of in balls. Here's what I do:
Take 1 lb. ground beef and brown it. Drain the grease.
Add a jar or can (about 20oz) of tomato sauce. I like to use garden vegetable blend spaghetti sauce and add my own spices to that, though there are sloppy joe "mixes" like manwich on some store shelves. I live in the US, though, so you may not be able to find them where you are.
Spices I like: Oregano, pepper, salt, paprika, garlic (garlic is practically a food group for my family) and basil. Mix together and heat. Spoon onto a roll (I like toasted hamburger buns, but any bread will do) and eat hot.
Terribly messy (they ARE sloppy, after all) but they taste fantastic, and it's a fun way to play around with spices to find what you like best.

Sloppy joe is ground beef browned with bits of onion and green pepper and simmered in a spicy tomatoe paste. Then you put it on a roll or hamburger bun and add cheese if you so desire. You can vary the ingredients to your liking.

its like beef mixed with sloppy joe sauce on a plain bun. Usually a lot of excess meat, hense 'sloppy'.
Ground beef
Sloppy joe sauce
Simmer on medium for like 10 minutes or until cooked.
I don't know what the sauce is made of, but you can buy it in a can at any grocery store.

They are delicious! Here's my recipe:
1 pound ground beef, simmered with 1 large chopped onion.
Drain the grease; add 1 half bottle of BBQ sauce and 1 half bottle of ketchup. Mix it up and heat it up again. Put it on a hamburger bun and enjoy! I like to serve it with plain potato chips. They just go good together.

A sloppy joe is a loose meat sandwhich smothered in a tangy tomato/bbq style sauce. The way we make them here in the states is to buy a can of "sloppy joe" mix... and brown ground beef. mix the two together and put it on a bun. viola...sloppy joe.

Browned ground beef with tomato sauce, onions and spices mixed into it. Place a scoop of it on a hamburger bun.
BTW It's best to toast the bun first to keep the mixture from soaking through too much.
