Do you have taxable income? If you do, the child tax credit could reduce your income tax. If you don't owe any tax anyway, then it won't.

There are only a few situations when a student can claim benefits.....and being a parent is one of them

Yes you can claim child tax credit.....

and dependent on your bursary amount you my even be able to claim a top from income support. as well as housing benefit if you rent

and council tax benefit if you are liable (most students are not)

I do not think that a bursary is income for working tax credit purposes but you are not going to lose by trying
