At the very least, its going to make him feel sick and tired on and off for about 3-6 weeks. Some types of Pneumonia are very dangerous, and others are not - it depends on which type of fungus, bacteria, or virus is infecting the lungs. It is the leading cause of death in children in most of the world (but not in the US). Your doctor should be able to tell you what type of pneumonia your son has, and how much of risk it could be.

Its very important for children to get the rest they need, along with a little bit of exercise. With pneumonia, its common to feel perfectly fine on some days, and then get flattened the next day from too much activity. On the other hand, mild aerobic activity helps clear fluids and mucus out of the lungs, so its also a risk to keep a child completely in bed. You just have to monitor things very closely and balance activity and rest. Attendance at school should be a secondary concern. If there are outbreaks of flu, colds, strep throat or other respiratory infections at school, it might be a good idea to keep you son at home (to avoid a secondary lung infection), but this might not be necessary if your son does not have a serious form of pneumonia.

pnemonia can be dangerous all depends on how bad it is.
my brother had walking pnemonia a few years ago, he is fine now, however he has to use an inhaler once in a while. Look up some information on pnemonia so you can become familiar with it.

Yes Pneumonia is dangerous to a 40 lb 8 yr old. Left untreated the sickness can cause severe lung problems and high body temperatures that can cause even death to any person. Any sickness as doctors know that have these potential life threatening symptoms can be more fatal to young and elder person since their immune systems aren't fully developed or weakened due to age factors. Please if you know of a person with pneumonia especially a child get them to a medical facility immediately to save that life.

If the child is under doctor's care they should be fine.

My step aunt Died in March from Pnemonia. She refused to see a doctor until it was too late. She went in the hospital at 3pm and passed away around 7pm.

Pneumonia is highly dangerous! Without proper treatment, a full grown adult could die. I weakens the ability to breathe quite a bit and slows down the function of all body systems. If you suspect someone you know has pneumonia, get them to a doc......fast!

It can be if left untreated. It can cause severe respiratory distress. It needs to be treated with antibiotics. Don't take chances with a child's health. Have the child seen by a physician ASAP.

Yes, and it used to be a major killer before antibiotics were discovered. My mother had it as a child and was laid up for weeks. The only treatment she had was mustard packs on her chest.
