In poem 1 of Chi’s “Songs of My Soul,” his state of restlessness is apparent in the line “It is the middle of the night--- I cannot sleep” (74), and further exemplified in the line “pacing to and fro, I wonder what my future will bring” (74).

should I have a colon or something that separates line from quote or is it fine the way it is?

You need a comma there.

I am in AP language so I know: "It is the middle of the night--I cannot sleep...pacing to and fro, I wonder what my future will bring" (74).

If you want to make it all one sentence then this is how: "It is the middle of the night-- I cannot sleep, pacing to and fro; I wonder what my future will bring."
