They're all bits and pieces of the true truth.

If we could all stop bickering long enough to come together and put our individual pieces together, we would have a fuller, more complete picture of the true truth.

When will that happen?

Not a trivial question at all...

Epistemology is the name of the topic.
"The study of the acquisition of knowledge"
The basic epistemological question is:
"how do I know I know that?"

But we are fed both "truths"and mechanisms for evaluating "truth" within our upbringing before we have any chance of evaluating them. It couldn't be otherwise as, as infants, we know so little.
But is what we're told reliable?

It was a shock for me aged about 9 when I realised the preacher had just said something from the pulpit that was complete rubbish.
And again later, when told to cross out something in a text-book because it was wrong.

Unless we are all in our bubble universes, there is only one truth out there, though there there are varying approximate convictions concerning it.

In this R&S section, should one point out that it's the most unlikely hypothesis of all that reincarnation is true for Buddhists and Hindus, and *only* Buddhists and Hindus?
No this sort of truth isn't personal. If true for one, it's true for all. (Or conversely, false).

A good brain work-out on the concept of truth might be
Felipe Fernadez Armesto's book
"Truth: A History and a Guide for the Perplexed"
But it's not easy going.

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. John 14:6

God's Truth is truly the truth. That truth is Jesus.

Everyone thinks their 'truth' is the 'true truth'. Its decided by that person.

I think God, Himself, has the right to decide that. He, alone is best qualified.

That's skirting the issue? Ok. Here's just one perspective:

Jesus said "I am Truth"

Now then, if the muslems are correct in stating that Jesus was sent from God, then Jesus is Truth.

If the Jewish prophets point to Jesus as the Messiah, then Jesus is Truth. There are over 300 prophecies. They tell WHERE Jesus would be born, WHEN he would be born, HOW he would be born, how he would live, how he would die, even what he would say while he was dying!!!!

The Christians already believe that Jesus is the Truth.

Now then, if Jesus was not who he claimed to be (ie the Truth), then (in the words of C.S. Lewis), "he must have been insane, on the same level as a man who thinks he's a poached egg", when you consider that he claimed equality to God, after all.

But if Jesus was not Truth, then the Jews and the muslems are both wrong, because they point to Jesus. Mind you, they both deny it, but their religious writings both point to Jesus as being from God, so Jesus MUST have been telling the Truth when He said "I am Truth."

Jesus said, "If you continue in my word, then are you my disciples, and then you shall know the Truth, and the Truth shall set you free" and again, "Whoever the Son sets free shall be free, indeed."

Finally, Jesus said that He was the ONLY way to the Father, so he was absolutely right, or absolutely wrong - either he is and was exclusively the only way to God, or he was that lunatic I mentioned earlier. After all, he even said "You already believe in God, now believe in me."!!!!

There is no such thing as "Absolute Truth" . For one persons truth is not necessarily true for another. Even when it pertains to a person who is a member of an organized religion in the same denomination, not one person of that flock has the exact same perception of god as another....impossible.

The spirit within you is able to discern the actual, true living truth... first discern the difference between truth and fact... but in your heart, in your soul and in your spirit is where the truth is clarified and verified for you.

At John 8:31, 32, Jesus said: "If you remain in my word, you will know the truth." If we remain within the truthful teachings of Jesus, we will have the truth. Of course, it is obvious that most "Christians" choose not to do that.

Truth is not decided...truth just is.

Some views are closer to the truth than others...that is all.

There is only one absolute truth. If you really wish to know it, "ask and you shall recieve".Ask God to lead you to the truth and if you are sincere, He will show it to you. Have faith in His wisdome and guidance.
