Connie, evolution is science, not religion. Surely you can see that?

because it's the majority

i hate it to,

i hate being told i cant marry because it's a chirstian thing and gay cant do it.... how stupid

Marriage(partnership) was around long before christianity was even recognized as an actually religion, and the only reason they recognize marriage as one of there practices, is because the church wants to be more involved in peoples lives, and wants you to have that stronger connection to "god"

Why should the theory of gravity dictate how I travel?
Why should my parents dictate what I get to do when I'm a kid?

If it were only my concept of God then no, it doesn't and ought not dictate the lives of others. However, the root of the question then is, does God exist? Since I believe it does, then doesn't that (at the very least in my perspective), affect how everyone ought to live? Unless of course you tell me that all morality is relative, you impose your standards on other people too. And in the event that all morality is relative, it's possible we have wrongly condemned thousands upon thousands of criminals, including Hitler, Stalin, Mussolini, etc...

Come on, you be responsive to approximately evolution and all that. Adam and Eve is a fairy tale. The bible is packed with great examples of human nastiness. So interpreting that's like interpreting a survival education manual. beware for human beings as evil as King David. beware for human beings as evil as Delilah. they're available. And confident, there's an more desirable capability. My perception is which you would be able to study hands and get ready "magick" all you like, and God won't strike you down with a lightning bolt. merely be a solid guy or woman, ok?

It shouldn't. However, ever society needs to have laws and like it or not many of our laws are based on our religious beliefs. Even as the law itself is slowly starting to pull away for that concept, religion will always be where laws are routed. However one thing that is slowly happening, I believe, is that more people are starting to be more relaxed about there religion. People will always debate over God but I think a lot of the social problems that religion causes are slowly getting under control. For what it is worth.

I guess you could say though, Why should your concept of no God dictate how other people live?

You end up with the majority ruling, but hope for some type of equality for the other.

My concept of God, can and should, only dictate how I live. Telling others how to live may be helpful at times, but introducing others to God and Jesus Christ is the only sure way to bring about productive, life-long, change in others.

My concept of God only dictates how I live. If you live in a democracy your laws and constitution guide how you live. If you live in a Muslim state, then religion will guide your behaviour. If you disagree with laws, get politically active and change them.

It shouldn't. I think that is the biggest reason that there are so many Atheists today is that they are tired of being "bullied" by the Religious Right. Basically, people just want to be left in peace to believe as they wish to believe, without being told that they are going to Hell if they don't believe or do such-and-such. That is why our forebears left England - freedom FROM religion. Somewhere along the line that got skewed, and God was worked into the Pledge of Allegance (when it WASN'T initially).....well, o.k., I'll step off my soapbox now!

it kind of naturally dictates even though it shouldn't, solely because of our surroundings and what people have created for themselves. like just the other day, i walked into this really trashy gas station, and behind the cashier there was this huge poster of jesus with the crown of thorns on his head and blood dripping down his face. it made me laugh because it's just so normal to see a huge jesus face everywhere you go. "god" and religion are everywhere and there's really not much to do about it, because you can't ever criticize someone else's beliefs. it's much too taboo to do that, of course.

i find it to be a little unfair

Why should other peoples beliefs interfering on my life. They took prayer out of school to stop offending non Christians, although all religions pray, right? But they force christian kids to endure being taught evolution which is against their family beliefs?? Does that make sense? Does it sound fair? But we have to live with it don't we !
