USA, UK, Russia, China, Israel, & France all have developed their own sophisticated and advanced aircraft.
Sorry to disappoint gnarlyswine, but Israel developed the Nesher Fighter aircraft in the 1970's (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IAI_Nesher) , as well as the Kfir (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IAI_Kfir) retired in the 1990s, and the Lavi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IAI_Lavi) whose project was cancelled in the 1980's due to cost overruns.

UK -Hawker Sidley , Panavia, Eurofighter,JSF
France - Dassault Bregaut
Sweden - SAAB
Germany Panavia, Eurofighter
Italy Eurofighter
Spain Eurofighter
No doubt China wont be far behind , currently developing J12 and J 14 fighters
Israel use US aircraft - dont develop there own kfir is a modified Dassault Mirage 5
India Developing the MCA stealth fighter
South Korea Developing KFX stealth fighter
Japan developing Mitsubishi ATD-X Stealth fighter

India- has Soviet/Russian fighters, currently trading 4 old soviet/russian fighters for one modern US F-18 and F-16s.
