I just moved in with 2 girls. I already had a dog when I moved in. A couple wks after moving in I fell in love with a dog my friend was giving away. So I BOUGHT it from my friend for $50, & she gave me the shot record. I didn't tell my roommates I was bringing her home, & when I got there I told them that I found the dog, 2 see if they would let me keep it. They seemed unsure about it, so I told them I was going 2 keep it for a few days 2 see if I could find its owner, or find it a home, & if I couldnt then I would take her to the pound. About a week later, when I was at work, my roomie brought her friend in my room, & let her friend take the dog home to show her Dad to see if he would let her friend keep it. Its been 1 1/2 wks, & I havent gotten the dog back. I've been asking my roomie when she's coming back, she says she can't get a hold of ger. I got a hold of the girl, & she refuses to give the dog back. Can the police help me if I call them & tell them I bought it & show shot recs

You should've been honest, it's your own fault. I bet they took the dog to the pound and just don't want to tell you. I bet the dog is dead, they only keep them a week.

You had no right to bring another dog home without talking it over with your roommates. What is each of them went out and got 2 dogs? Then there would be 6 dogs there. Does your lease even allow you to own a dog. Dogs can be very destructive. Would you be able to replace everything belonging to your roommates if your dogs destroyed them. What your roommate did was wrong. In fact is was stealing, but you were wrong to bring the dog home also. I would let it drop. Find another place to live and if you have roomies, then do not pull a stunt like this behind their back. When living with other people you have to respect their rights and feelings as well.

Your roomie obviously thought she was doing you a favour, you said you would be taking the dog to the pound if you couldn't find the owner. No, in civil law you have no right to demand the dog back, you may have paid for it, but you did not tell your roomie that, so technically she did not steal the dog,nor did the person who gave him a home, although I feel your roomie should have told you beforehand. He is probably settled now so I suggest you leave the dog alone, he has had enough changes already. think twice before you deceive anyone again.

Let's see.. you LIED to your roommates and told them the dog was HOMELESS. Your roomie thought she as doing the right thing by finding a home for the dog. You did the wrong thing by not being upfront about the dog, not asking the people that you live with if a second dog would be okay with them, not to mention you probably have a landlord who may or may not be okay with more dogs in the house. You really messed this one up, and as a result this poor dog has been bounced around from one home to another... not good. Time to grow up.

You lied to your roomies, and if you want to look like as big an azz as "Mutts & Moms" then go ahead. If the dog is OK, then let it be. All things happen for a reason, maybe your other dog just doesn't want to share you, or maybe the people who have this dog really love it and want to give it a good home...

Probably not since you lied from the get go about the dog not being yours.

Maybe if you show a receipt for the $50 along with the shot record, but even then you have a bunch of witnesses saying that you LIED about it in the first place.

One lie leads to another. Honesty is always the best policy. My heart goes out to you, but if you want your dog back I would suggest you find a place to live that will let you keep a dog and then go get your dog. I don't know if the police would help, you lied.

oh wow.
take your roommates out to eat along with the friend who has the dog and about half way into the meal say, "well you know, i actually bought this dog for my (niece, aunt, sister, etc.) but then i decided that maybe she wouldn't be able to keep it. so instead i decided to keep it for me, but i didn't really know if my roomies would let me so i told them that i found it hoping they would let me keep it. I'm really sorry, but that dog is legally mine, and if you don't give it back i will have to call the cops on you." if you take the friend out to eat with you all, the friend wont see you as such a threat. then make a decision on when and where to get the dog back.

Wow, one lie after the other! Let the dog go and next time be truthful from the start. Honestly you should not have gotton the dog without permission first from your roommates... very inconsiderate, so perhaps this has turned out for the best.

If you purchased the dog, your room mate had no rights to the dog at all. Before calling the police, explain to her that you lied about just happening to find the dog, but that you actually bought the dog. In reality, though, the dog belonged to you and you can do whatever you feel is necessary to get the dog back.

Its your fault. Your room mate just thought she was doing the right thing. ORR U can find a new place 2 live, call the cops, and live the rest of your life with a lie as your room mate.
