Ok, I'm Native American, Spanish and a little African.

What's done is done, get over it. There are no "reparations" and anyone who expects them is an idiot. Today is today.

Mexico and Mexicans have absolutely no claim to the Southwest US.

The Azteca story is a Myth and a LIE....like the Greek Gods. Mexican are not Aztecas, Aztecas were a small and brutal tribe of ruling class that were wiped out by BOTH the spanish and all of the other tibes that were their slaves. Mexicans are decendents of the freed slaves of the Aztecas. There is no Aztec heritage that exist that anyone should be proud of.

They did not control this SW US area in 1848, the Apache and Commanche did.

There were only a few SPANISH settlements in NM, AZ, TX and Cali....these people did not revolt against the Spanish in 1810 and they never, ever considered themselves "Mexican". Until the US showed up, they thought of themselves as Spanish Colonist.

The US bought and paid for this land, several times. That Mexico let corrupt leaders steal the money is Mexico's problem, not the US.

In the war of 1846-1848, the US stopped the war several times and sent ambassadors to negotiate peace and pay large sums of gold for land that Mexico coulde not even rightly claim. Look up the history. US Army stopped where they were for months and waited for peace. Every time the Mexicans and that fool Santa Ana broke the peace and made war again.

Some of the answers here are very interesting. I gotta say your question is pretty stereotypical, but some of the answers are pretty enlightening.

Most of the Mexicans are mixed Spanish/Native blood. Deciding "whose" land their so-called native land is would be impossible.
Even a drop of Spaniard would be a crime, wouldn't you want to hand it back to pure Natives? They don't really exist anymore.
Unless the whole holier-than-thou cause is a big lie and just a money/power grab.
You can't right wrongs 150 years later. Too many things change, like we built a nice nation on top of the land.
If you were angry, should've done it 20 years after the US annexed half of Mexico's old territory.

Besides you wouldn't want the land back if the USA hadn't taken California, Texas ect and made it into a nice place to live. So really you lose barren land, we made it a place people will jump borders to get to.

Europe's been conquered many times, America's been conquered many times, so has Asia and Africa. Sometimes it's an improvement like Rome, America, British Empire, Spanish Empire.

I read Curtis' reply. The Mexican's took back which was rightfully theirs. The Mexicans are a mix of the natives and Spaniards. So for them to take back what was theirs to begin with...no one should feel sorry for the Spanish.
Nor should anyone really complain about immigration these days. Chocolate Bunny is correct in her statement of what the Europeans did. Then as we evolved as a country the politicians patted themselves on their backs for breaking them off a piece of land?!!!...Damn!..lol How nice!

The same way the pilgims came over and whoever else followed. They looked for a better place to live. Like some are still doing today, but some people and I mean Bush and Schwarzzenegger don't want Mexicans crossing the borders to work and raise their families. Hell give em status and let them pay taxes if thats what they worry about.

Anyways......lol

Those who were in the territory acquired by the U.S. was A. Paid for ($2 million dollars), and B. people living in that area were offered automatic citizenship. If they chose to leave, and declined citizenship, that is not the U.S.'s fault. The war with Mexico was not genocide, and is a separate issue from moving the Native Americans (in what is now the U.S.) to reservations. What happened with the Native Americans is sad, but what happened with Mexico was a war.

If you really want to discuss it, I can also point out that prior to the war (and even after), there were problems with bandit groups crossing into U.S. territory, and robbing and murdering civilians as well as military. The area that is now Texas declared its independence from Mexico before joining the U.S., and the northern part of Mexico was very sparsely populated. The Mexican government actually had to encourage people to colonize the northern parts of Mexico to populate it.

And, if you go even farther back in some history books, you'll discover that what the Spaniards did to the native peoples of what is now Mexico was far, far worse than anything that happened in what is now the U.S.

Uh sorry honey but no US lands were ever native Mexican lands. The Mexicans 1st raped killed and burned out the American Indians that were here. Then the Catholic Church tried to complete the genocide with the Hacienda and Mission system gratis imperial Mexico and Spain. When these same Mexican killers tried to pull the same stunts with the white settlers the Texans, Californians and Americans didn't bend their knees to these tyrants and fought the Mexican Slaver's Armies back to Mexico City, duh.

Maybe also when Mexico decides to stop shooting and throwing illegal Guatemalans that make it into Mexico into dungeons I will listen to what you are saying.

Geezz folks, do any of you people know how to read your history or go to a school that isn't run by La Raza?

Since when was the Western part of the now United States part of Mexico? Mexico was conquered by the Spanish, who slaughtered the Native Indians and decided to explore all the way up into the present USA, not settle. Those Indians who surrendered to the Spanish (who are European) intermarried with the conquerors, so the present day Mexicans are descendants of the Europeans. You also forget that the Russians settled in Alaska and all the way down into present day California. If the Mexicans want to return to their native lands then they need to head back south of the border into Mexico (or cross the pond back to Spain). Please check a number of good history books on explorers and conquerors.

Killed indians, yes. Mexicans??? Mexicans/Latin people are descendants of Spanish/Amerindian/black people. There were no Mexicans, Mexicans are the Mestizo or criollo kids who were offspring.

Many of these answers are non-sense, there were 3 huge indian tribes in what is now called Mexico, 2 of these tribes joined the Spanish to take down the main Aztec tribe. There are many Spanish descendants in Mexico as long with Indian and black. Also along all over cuba, brazil, peru etc....pretty much all the Latin countries.

TO CCC= How can you be possibly sure about that dude, honestly if many of the native people were taking to Spain to raise families, you have no way of been exactly sure unless you can trace your ancestry back 300-500yrs you make me laugh. Do you go to sleep telling yourself that?

Any Indians/Mexicans who were here became Americans. For what happened south of the border, you have to look at a different group coming and killing Indians.

AFTER we created this country we built the schools and funded the services that make what is north of the Rio Grande different from what is south of the Rio Grande. I don't see OUR Indians/Mexican Americans illegally immigrating south.

Yes, but that was 100 years before we were born, All those people metioned probally suffer reprocussions today, as far as Mexicans they can come back to there ancestors, "not there" land, and enjoy the wonderful country with an ecomony that blows theres away. One condition, they must follow the system that has made it so great. Otherwise our country will go the way of theirs, and their country is one were the pesos is worthless and people are starving! as far as indians it is very hard to "escape" the reservation, due to the fact that there schools are unacredited past the 8th grade, and other obsticles. Yes America has an ugly history that people today had nothing to do with!
