That made me chuckle. No, I never said "Wow, I didn't realize I believed THAT!" but I did think to myself "Wow, how could they have believed THAT! And more important, how can some people STILL believe that???"

Of course i recommend it. I was not a Christian but after I read the Bible I was overwhelmed with what the Gospel is all about. Especially the New Testament It is just unbelievably moving. If you don't' want to buy the Bible, and if you have smartphone i highly recommend the app "Bible App" Not only it is free but it comes with many many different versions of the Bible e.g. King James, NIV, New Living Translation. It even comes with different languages as well! You can also create reading plans to suit your need. I'm currently working on my Yearly Reading plan and am 76% done and enjoyed every bit of it. But, if you don't have a smartphone, you can always goto a local church and ask for a bible and they will happy to oblige. God Bless

Even when I believed in God, I never believed the bible was supposed to be literal. I thought everything in there was a message from God in metaphorical form for us to study and understand.

The world created in 6 days, man from dust, women from ribs, talking serpents, Adam's apple from Adam choking on the apple, talking burning bushes? Come on people, get real. There is NO way this could be taken literally.

But when I started thinking about other aspects of the religion, I realize it's just a bunch of stories written by men to do what Bongernet said.

i really think if christians come across something in the bible that they don't believe they just dismiss it and act like it's not in there. this is given the assumption that christians actually read the bible.

Yeah...when I was ten they told me that all the plants were created before the Sun in Sunday School. I thought they were lying because no one could be that stupid.

Well I figured out that I was wrong and people could be that stupid. That's why I became an atheist.
