Hey, I am Christian and I do not see anything wrong with Halloween. I could care less if other religions find it a sacred night, or that some religious people get all bent over it. I think children should be allowed to go have fun, dress up as a hero, or a witch, or a princess, and be in their dreams what they are not in real life. They also get candy. How great is that!! I think kids should be allowed to go and have fun and we need to stop acting like Halloween is more than it is. LET THE KIDS HAVE FUN PEOPLE! =)

Depends on how you look at it. Technically, the original Halloween was a christian holiday which honored the dead but eventually transformed into what we have today. If your husband is so bent on relieving the family from holidays based on Christianity then perhaps he should look into and research the fact about Christmas too. It was originally a Pagan holiday and still considered one to many people. The original Halloween was in fact people dressing up in disguise in order for them to be able to go out at night on a night when the dead have been known to roam the earth. They dressed up in order to be disguised and fool the dead into believing that they were one of them or to simply dressing up as another person that you knew whom died as if to honor a passed loved one. The whole "trick or treating to get candy" part was only developed later for the children. So if you really think about it... it is no longer even the holiday it used to be. It's just a children's holiday now where they get to dress up and pretend to be their favorite TV or movie characters for a day while getting treats. Whats wrong with that? There is nothing evil about it. I think your husband is having an inferiority complex and is just trying to stipulate a sense of control over you and your family.

Christians just get the whole idea of holidays mixed up, Halloween started out as a pagan holiday, Christians stole it for a while, now it's completely secular. Easter and Christmas are also secular holidays that started out pagan but was stolen from the Christians for their own use.
Imagine how Jehovah's Witness' children feel when they can't even celebrate their birthday or other holidays.
My mom personally would take me out trick or treating when I was a kid but she's also someone who doesn't Halloween for it's "demonic" elements, but she still passes candy out and buys too much of it, lol.

The funny thing is is that those people don't understand truly what Halloween is, it's not about the devil. :)
I'm Christian as well... Roman Catholic. Trick-or-treating is a harmless, innocent thing that the children enjoy.
Don't be too mad at her for questioning your parenting style, she's just being ignorant.

Being Christian has nothing to do with trick or treating. I think it depends on the persons sect. I think it is based on how each group views the holiday. Is it viewed as a Satanic event or as a chance for kids to dress up and have fun?

I am a Christian and I take my kids trick or treating. If you raise your kids to think of it as evil then they will. I tell my kids its just a fun day to dress up and get candy and to them that is all it is. If you think about it, a fat guy in a red suit passing out toys is pretty weird, but Santa still brings our kids gifts every Christmas!!

I am christian, and I when I was a child i went trick or treatin all the time. I am too old now.
but,,, As long as your child knows what halloween is about; If you explain to them that we are not celebrating the holiday, and they fully understand and can explain back to you clearly, i believe it is fine.
It is nice to attend a church event, and it is also fun to go out and trick or treat.

I too am a devoted, born again Christian, and I see nothing wrong with letting your kids go trick or treating on Halloween. I view Halloween as a time for kids to dress up as their favorite characters or animals and have fun going from door to door to get candy - and nothing more. I don't pay any attention to the other crap that halloween used to stand for, it's just a time for kids to have fun - that's all. It's only wrong if your kids are like playing with quiji boards or conjuring up spirits on Halloween, okay. Now that's wrong, but there's nothing wrong with kids going out dressed up as animals or their favorite characters going door to door for candy - my daughter is going as this totally adorable bumble bee and she's so excited because the costume has a tu-tu and she has glittery shoes to wear with it - she's so excited!. It's just a fun time for kids. That's all it is! Good luck and don't worry about what your friend thinks - those "holier than thou" people always bug me anyways... lol! Good luck!

First of all, theyre anal because when all values are reversed, the donkey leads the head where the donkey wants to go. Second, in a Christian country and a Christian area of the World (western civilization-----look at the cross on all the flags), Jesus Christ is revered above all, because he is the FOUNDATION on which the prosperity rests. You eat away at that, and erode the foundation, and everything crumbles away.
While ghosts and goblins howl with delight. (Just check out Broadway and the subways at night.)

I grew up Christian and going to a church where they thought trick or treating was bad but my mom always let us go trick or treating. I'm still Christian of course and look forward to my daughter having fun every year at Halloween. I don't understand the people who deprive their children of pure, innocent fun.
