I'm 29 and my mom still celebrates my B-days. I love it!!!! I'm super close to my mom and my family and I think this is the reason.

It's not just about throwing a party, it's about bonding and having fun as a family, that is something that should not be lost.

Around the time they start becoming embarrassed to be seen with you. Somewhere around 12-14 I would think. After that a small dinner and a movie thing seems to be good.

Unless you have girls then the Sweet 16 party is a big deal. I've heard thanks to that show on MTV people now take out loans and go bankrupt on sweet 16 parties.

My last big bday party was when I was 12. I had planned on one for my 13th, but someones grandfather had died that half the town knew so that nixed that.

When our kids were about 9 or 10 years old, we started having them help us plan their birthday celebrations. We'd offer them choices, and the number of guests depended on the type of celebration. Two hour party at our house: they could invite all their friends and classmates. Slumber Party: limited to 7 or 8 friends. Go to a theme park or other commercial place: 1 to 5 friends. Beach, springs, etc. 3 or 4 friends.

They are adults now, and make their own plans-usually they split their time between family and friends. I think the last birthday party we hosted was during their senior year of high school. The last party we had for one of them was when my oldest daughter got orders to deploy to Afghanstan with the Air Force, she came home on leave and we invited everyone she knew to an open house.....we had nearly 60 people stop by to see her.

We made a deal with our 5 kids. We had cake and ice cream, and I let them pick their favorite meal, I cooked, and the money we saved from not having a large party, we let them help pick the restaurants we went to while on our 2 week summer vacations, and we let them pick one big thing to do, like go to the rodeo, see the space center, that kind of thing. They choose at very young ages not to have parties.

I stopped at 10. They still had a small party with just a few friends and family, but the big party thing is for small children and OLD people.

I never got parties when I was a kid. I guess I just want them to know I think alot of them. My 11 year olds getting smaller parties every year because it got to the point where they were asking for parties at six flags. I did one at build a bear for my daughter and it cost $375.00 just for a 45 minute party, that didn't include pizza out or presents cake or anything. I've cut that. They know I love them.

always set a time limit during the planning stage, then clearly state it on the invitations(li.e. 12:00-4:00)then its never a question.no one wants a party that drags on too long and it keeps you in control-not the kids!

Depends on the kids and their ages .............I don't believe in big parties. I think a birthday should be spent with family and then the person whose birthday it is can do what they want. For kids, I would say big partis should end at about 10. Then on their 16th, 18th, and 21st, throw a big party.....

I would ask them. At some point, it's cooler to hang out with friends on your b-day than to have big parties with your family.
Let them decide when it's time to tone it down.

we usually put a 2 to 3 hr time limit on it, so the parents will be back at this time, but really depends on time of yr also, like we have one in the summer and we set up things like a blowup slide and a pool lots of water games the kids really like these so we sorta extend the party for them to have fun, we still put a time limit on it but leave the option there, but fotr the other its in winter so if we stay home keep it quick and fast but when ya rent places usually they have the time limits for ya so many things to chose from
