No one (well, almost no one) wants to die. It's natural to want to STAY ALIVE; after all, survival is naturally selected to be priority one in our lives (and for good reason).
Don't go looking for things that don't exist, though. There is zero evidence one's self/consciousness can survive death. It is interesting you used the word "assure," though...
"It is far better to grasp the universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring." --Carl Sagan

Yes, I do ... my mum told me this story at the weekend.
My grandmother died in April 2006 - she had leukaemia and it was a long process. Before she was ill, she had always been a keen gardener, and had one plant in her garden that she particularly liked - an Agapanthus.
While she was ill, she talked a lot with my mum about whether or not there was an afterlife, and she said that if there was, she would find a way to get a message to my mum so she would know.
Anyway, while she was ill, the plant in the garden wasn't getting any attention and in the end, it died after the frost got it. My mum told my gran this and she said it was a shame, but nevermind.
Anyhow, once she had died, my mum felt bad about the plant because my gran had been very fond of it, so she started to water it again, and a tiny green leaf appeared. When she realised it was still alive, she brought it back to her house, and looked after it.
Now bear in mind that an Agapanthus flowers in June or July - on Sunday morning, a whole head of blue flowers appeared.
Sunday 28th October would have been my gran's birthday :)
I'm taking this as a positive message.

You have to know my dad to see why this is wierd. I asked him once, about a year or two ago if he'd ever seen a ghost and to my suprise he replid yes! He used to travel around for work all the time and was staying in a really old B&B once. He had to get up at some ridiculous time in the early hours and was walking down the corridor. He said he saw a woman walking towards him and she just walked through him. He said it didn't hit him what had happened until a couple of seconds after, but he didn't feel any fear at all.
Also, My boyfriends brother really does see dead people. He has been like this his whole life and it really messes him up. His dad used to be a hypnotist for regression and has recordings of people describing their passed lives.
This leads me to believe that there is more to the afterlife than we could imagine.

i promise that you can not die. :-)
your body will eventually stop working, but your spirit is eternal.
as far as ghosts are concerned, some possibilities are .....
in my experience we all, YES ALL, go onto the spirit world, here we can continue to grow and learn spiritually - we can re-visit this earth and our loved ones - directly or through a medium. although a ghost is not normally a spirit visiting, it is like a photo or movie pasted onto the fabric/ energy of a place or time. but sometimes we do not pass over to the spirit world immediately, this is the "unfinished business" bit, but everyone gets there eventually - and remember time is of no importance in spirit and so 100 yrs in the flat you lived in is nothing and your energy in spirit can sometimes be felt by those still living here...
i hope this makes sense.. and if not, i hope something does, just so long as you stop fearing death - you are wasting your time.
:-)

You are made unconscious during surgical procedure, when you regain consciousness you remember the few moments just before you became unconscious. The duration of your unconsciousness is equivalent to death. I have experienced it twice, but it is not at all scary. I do not believe in ghosts or life after death. The life force equivalent to soul vanishes after death and that is the end of `YOU`

I had way to many near death experiences and walked away from them all, what I have ascertain through all this is that the spirits and or angels that I have seen all my life have protected me.
I have astral projected twice, astral travel once that I know about, and about seven times my spirits wakes up as my body sleeps when spirits and or Guide comes near.
My spirit guide came again to me last night to give me a hug, she is so compassionate. I asked her a question as she was leaving, she whispered and answered me.
I use to be afraid to die, now I look forwad to it, only the body dies, not your spirit.... don't worry it's good where we go if you trust in God:)

my experiences with death and the afterlife: well, none so far thankfully
ghosts: also none
as far as afterlife goes, i reckon you could take the view: whatever you believe, is what happens. e.g. if you believe when you die you are reincarnated as a turtle, you will become a turtle.
my thoughts? well, i'll find out when i get there won't i? hopefully in many years...
enjoy life XD

Dont think about it so much, I believe that when we die our souls go to heaven depending on good we've been bear in mind Im a muslim, do you have a religion, if you dont mind me askin! But your soul will stay on earth if you dont have a religious burial and this isnt if your just a muslim, it applies to everyone, I know this for certain coz my sister was possesed by a spirit once, believe it or not but it really did happen I saw it all, when they questioned the spirit it told us that it was a child and it was abandoned by its mother... Basically its hangin around coz its body isnt buried its turned into filth! Hope I havent scared you, nothing to be scared about anyway! xx

This is a natural question that every person experiences at one time or another. Inevitably you will have to discover the answer for yourself. Neither myself nor anyone else on here can give you complete assurance.
I do have a forum wherein we discuss these things. If you so desire you can visit and discuss your thoughts:

I grew up in a haunted house. I saw shadows, heard voices, smelled perfume, and felt a hand on my cheek once when I was crying. There has to be something after this life. It seems incomprehensible that this is all there is to it and that we have no souls. I believe that we have souls that live on forever.
