This is a big change for a family that eats unheathly... and cooking dinner instead of eating out is a great start.

Another thing.... if you are not buying cookies, candy, cakes, etc... SOMEONE is... I can only assume from your post its your husband... you need to have a talk with him! If you are trying to focus and help your family eat better you BOTH need to be on board! He needs to support you and going behind your back and buying things you do not want in the house anymore is NOT support!

Another great thing you can do is find healthy recipes online. There is healthy ways to make almost anything! Cake... by using applesauce instead of oil, makes it healthier, I have a recipe for Chicken parmigan that eliminates the breading and you dont fry the chicken in grease, my hubby LOVES it, its his favorite meal that I make.

A great website for recipes is Sparkrecipes.com - it also gives you nutritional counts of every recipe on there. You should also try and cook more chicken, fish, pork, stay away from the red meats... or only indulge on occasion!

Hello, Well I had the same problem for years. Just last August I stopped buying chips, cookies and juice. I started buy tons of fruits and veggies and plenty of bottles of arrowhead water! Believe me, your family only eats what you bring in the house.

I gained 20 lbs in the last 4 years and I am a small person so i decided to change the way i eat!

Every morning, my daughter, my BF and I eat flax grain cereal with soy milk. Lunch time you can eat Salads, Fish, or plain breast chicken with lots of veggies! The key into eating right and losing weight is NOT to eat after 5 or 6pm. Of course you will eat, so you can eat a plate of veggies and a bowl of fruits! You can have plain tuna, or plain white breast chicken or fish. As Simple as that. I lost 15 lbs in 3 months. It really works and i feel better not eating fast food and junk food. Try it believe me it works!

life style changes wont come like a click.Give ur husband some time for it.The best way is to show him the benifits rather than making him do it coz it will lead to frustation.See if these points help you:-
1.Breakfast - This month give him regular breakfast just add one fruit in it.Like u can add few strawberries in his milk, or keep an orange juice glass next to him.Dont urge him.while making eggs take out the yolk n add lots of coloured capsicum with some cheese so tat he wont notice the missing fatty part.as he comes for breakfast put some fruits in front of him n tell him i'll be done with breakfast in few minutes.By that time he'll eat some of it if not the whole.or put some roasted peanuts and almonds handful only, till u get it done.try not to let him skip breakfast by putting the alarm clock 15 min early.if in too rush pack him up with a glass of skim milk + any fruit shake.
2.if u pack the lunch stuff more protein in it without him knowing.make things of fish/chicken/ low fat cottage cheese/ soya beans/pulses.if he plans for burgers instead of two cheese make it single.
3.evening as he comes just put things like soya milk/yogurt/tofu salad/ soup in front of him so that he fills full before dinner.
4.Dinner- soup as u have started.add lots of grilled chicken/ fish with some low fat cheese so tat he wont feel dumped of his favorite food.try to switch off the television during meals by telling him tat u need to him n ur baby.
if possible tell him tat i am going for 15 min walk.would u like to accompany me sweety?? ask him this daily n see one day he will say yes.just a bit of patience!!!
after 1 month u can elaborate the healthy aspect n cut down the bad ones
u can also do his blood check up like lipid profile n do it again after 1 month n let him see the difference.
dont forget to add calcium supplements and amino acids supplements in his routine. It will give added benefits.
i hope somethings will help u.
p.s. instead of black beans try making pancakes of green gram which is very healthy.soak them overnight.morning grind them add spices n make pancakes.also replace all sugar with alternatives n keep the sugar box for ur son in his room so tat he will be compulised to take sugarfree.

lifestyle changes are difficult. ask any recently diagnosed diabetic or heart-diseased person. the rates of relapse (eating the things they shouldn't) are comparable to alcohol, drugs and other addictions.

therefore, expect to mess up a few times, but if you are really willing to overhaul your family's health, then there must be incredible willpower on the part of you and your husband.

i would suggest getting healthful recipes to jumpstart your diets. make it fun and be adventurous with your foods. be mindful of what you eat and focus on how your body feels afterwards. your energy should go up and the weight should come off.

best wishes!
