I came home from work yesterday and found my 1 year old kitty dead under an end table. I left for work at about 8am, and came home at 1:30 and she was already stiff...as if she had been dead for a couple of hours at least. Nothing seemed to be out of place. She was laying on her side, with all four legs out, her tail out, and there was a little blood that had come out of her mouth. I had her spayed when she was about 5 months old, and she had a reaction to the Anesthetics. It took her a couple of months to stop being shaky and to stop bobbling her head. It then took a couple more months for her to start jumping. Could that have caused issues with her brain and heart and could she have died from a stroke or heart attack? I have two other cats at home and they were ok when I got there. What do you guys think could have happened?

Thank you for answering. Yes, she was current on all of her vaccinations. Also, the vet saw her about a month ago because she had started going to the bathroom all over the house so I wanted to rule out anything physical first. He suggested that it was a behavior issue and to try a pherimone diffuser...which I did. It seemed to help. I don't have any houseplants, but she has been jumping on top of a closet. This closet covers the upstairs neighbor's pipes. I noticed that she smelled like metal once from being up there, so I covered the pipe. Could it be lead poisoning? She's only been able to get up there for the last month or so...so I don't think she could have injested enough lead. I can't think of anything else!

I can't really give you anymore answers than what's already been offered. I simply wanted to tell you how sorry I am that this happened. I can only imagine how you must feel. I'm terribly sorry. Poor lil thing. Take comfort in the fact that it certainly sounds as though the time she was here, she seems to have owned a wonderful human who cared an awful lot about her.

Wow. I'm sorry to hear this. Without an autopsy there's really no telling what happened. Could have been genetic, or birth defect or a whole lot of other causes. This really saddens me!
What's very important now is to keep a close eye on your other cats and make sure this thing wasn't a communicable disease. If you spot even the slightest suspicious thing get them to the vet right away.
Sorry for your loss.

First, I am so sorry for your loss; I know that must have been VERY upsetting for you to find her like that and how unexpected it was.
Second, you may never know what caused your poor cat's death. Unfortunately, it's not that unusual for that to happen. A cat can seem perfectly healthy one day and then suddenly die another day. That's why we should cherish our kitties (while we have them) because we never know how long they're going to be with us.
I once had a beautiful tortie and white cat named Tasha. I had her for 2 years and she ended up dying right in my bedroom. The vet did an autopsy on her but couldn't find the cause.

Poor kitty! I'm sorry for your loss.
Some animals, like some humans, are just born with genetic defects. Perhaps your poor kitty was born with a lung/liver/kidney problem, and it manifested itself recently. I had a dog that passed away very suddenly at the age of 3 because his kidneys completely shut down. The vet told us that he was just born with defective kidneys. If it's really bothering you, you might ask your vet to perform an autopsy.

You can have your vet do an autopsy to rule out anything contagious since you have other pets in the house, but it could be costly.
It sounds like she was weak since birth. You mention you noticed a small amount of blood by her mouth. Could she have eaten something poisonous?

I'm really sorry about your cat.
I agree with the other answerers, it could be a lot of different things... aneurism, heart failure, stroke... even kitties have genetic defects... and it seems your kitty was sensitive to things, and had some problems.
take care..

so sorry to hear about your lost .. it must havebeen soo distressing for yuo to find your cat like that.. what a shock.
the only real way to get answers would be to take the cat to the vets and ask for postmortem.. not nice but at least it will tell you what she died from and if you need to worry about your other cats..
could have been absolutely anything !
take care

Your vet is the only one who can give you a definitive answer. My guess would be some sort of genetic defect, like an aorta anuerism (sorry, I don't know if I spelled those right).

like every one else said.. an autopsy would be the only way of knowing...
did she ever go out?
was she vaccinated? ( I assume she was since she was spayed)
are there any toxic plants inside she may have chewed on? or chemicals she may have licked?
sorry for your loss...
