For example, when somebody asks something like "Do Atheists belive in anything?" All the straight foward answers from Athiests or from a similar perspective get thumbs down and answers that can be preceived has harrassing to the Athiests get thumbs up such as one like "Because they are idiots and are going to Hell!"

Aren't they just answering the question asked? Why all the judgment?

I don't give thumbs down to non athiest answeres, just rude and offensive ones.

See how the first answers already have thumbs down?

Seems like such a biased dislike for anyone who does not share the religious viewpoint of the asker or forum. I assume most people on this forum are Christian (considering most of the US population is) does the Christian Bible really teach such dislike for other religions?

Susan: Does that mean you have to give them a thumbs down, simply because they do not share you view? Isn't th thumbs system meant to vote if the answer is good for the question ask ed and in the example given, how is a thumbs down appropriate?

I am really not trying to seem judgmental, I am asking a real question about an observation. Sorry if I offend anyone.

Because in R+S it isn't so much about giving a good answer, it's more of an "I agree with your viewpoint" icon.

Why do Christians get a thumbs down when asked if they believe in God and they say "yes"?

Why have I seen thumbs down when answering a poll, like what is your age and your religion?

Because, whether they like to believe it or not, Christians are just as judgemental as Athiests, but not because of religion, but because they are Human beings. Most people judge people without even meaning to, some just think that they can say whatever they like because, as you said, atheists "don't believe in anything", they won't get hurt by mean comments. People don't take each other into conderation, it's just sad. This battle should be over by now.

Gross generalization. I am an Atheist and I have to say Atheists as a group are just as guilty as any other group on this forum. I figure the world is about 87% jerks Christian, Atheists, or otherwise.

There is increasing evidence of what some have called, "The Thumbs-Down Fairy".

The Thumbs-Down Fairy isn't just limited to questions about atheists, or even limited to atheists. Or even limited. He (or she) has a magical power to thumbs-down all answers, all the time. It's truly magical...

I want to go as the Thumbs-Down Fairy for Halloween.

Just come to expect it to happen. Atheists among the most persecuted minority in society. Just a few years ago, George Bush (Daddy Bush) said that Atheists were not "Citizens or Patriots" With that sort of indictment from the brass, what do you expect from the peasantry?

because some religious people just cant take it.
it happens to other questions too. you give the straight up truth and people just dont want to hear it and you get thumbs down

edit

You get thumbs down for saying anything that's true, but doesn't fall into line with their beliefs. So you can say you're an atheist, and why, and they thumb you down as if you're "wrong" about it.

A religious person can't handle arguments or disagreements in a rational manner. They can't handle anything in a rational manner for that manner.
