Before hearing about the new 40gig i never even thought about getting a ps3 before next year. My question is for those who have backwards compatability (the 40 gig does not) Howmany of yall actually play your old games? When i bought my ps2 in 2001 i thought i would play my ps1 games but never did. Also, is 40 gig a good size? I won;t be storing music. I will probably buy only 2 games per year. Should that be enough? Lastly, do you really need/use 4 usb ports?

Oh yeah, How is madden & NCAA? I basically only play EA sports Football games & First person Shooters. How is rainbow six?

I have the 60GB PS3 and I always play my old PS2 games on my PS3. As a matter of fact, there's still about 2 more games that I want to buy for the PS2 because I never got around to buying them (God of War 2 and Killzone).

In my opinion 40GB really isn't a lot of storage space, because by the time you download 4 or 5 demos and a few videos from the Playstation Store at least 3 or 4 GB of space will be used up. But you can buy a bigger harddrive for the PS3 anytime and take out the old one. But, I really recommend that you get the 60GB PS3 or the 80GB version.

You don't really need 4 USB ports, but it's convienent to have the extra ports just in case you need to charge extra controllers while you are playing a game, but the PS3's controllers can also be plugged into a computer's USB port for charging as well.

I haven't played any of the Rainbow Six games, I recommend Resistance Fall of Man for a first person shooting game. Every PS3 owner person that loves shooters must own and play Resistance Fall of Man. Resistance was my first PS3 game.

And sorry, I don't know how any of the sports games are because I don't play sports games, but I'm sure that they're great games.

Most of this is only answerable by you. Will you play your old PS2 games? Do you play them now on your PS2? If so and you only plan to buy a few games a year you may still be playing the old and new games until you get enough new ones to forget the old ones. Even some of the old PS2 games, if you are like me, sit and gather dust now.

I don't personally have one so I can't say how the Madden and NCAA games are but I think you would be pleased with the System. I would say you want to have backwards compatability but is it worth the extra money to buy the better models? That's your call.

As far as 40GB being enough... I would think it should be plenty unless you are storing a lot of other stuff or saving games from a lot of users beside yourself.

So, overall I feel it's best to get the better one. If you don't play the PS2 games anymore now then that's not really a reason to spend more money but you may end up buying one and wishing you had got the better one. Then if you want the better one you end up buying both and even if you sell the first one you lose some of your investment which means the better one costs even more then. If you buy it now the worst you have to think about is having spent a little more on something you didn't actually use.

Good luck on your choice!

It should work fine for you as long as you arent storing a lot of music or videos. I rarely play my PS2 games on it, I just like knowing I can.
