To be treated as an adult you must act as an adult. An adult takes charge of and responsibility for their life. This includes the basics like food, housing and clothing. As long as your mother has to provide for you she will not see you nor treat you as an adult. At least she thinks you are capable of holding a job, a view she would not have of a six year old. So quit complaining like a six year old that you're not getting your way and go out and make your way.

I'm sorry. Have you thought about trying to move out? I know that may not be financially possible for you right now, especially if your mother is not letting you find your own job...Are you able to leave the house on your own? Job search without talking to her about the positions that you are applying for. Interview without telling her about it. Accept, if you want to, and let you know that you are an adult and would like to be treated like one. (Make sure you're acting like one!) :) And I would think that things would get better. Sometimes moms just need to be reminded that we aren't all still 6 years old....

Your mother sounds extremely controlling. Your job should be something that YOU are good at, it should be something that YOU enjoy and that YOU are qualified for. It sounds like she is trying to live her life through you. You will have to stand up for yourself although I know its hard to do when you have to stand up against your own mother.

Tell her thank you for her advice and that you are now an adult and can make your own decisions, then make it.
