It must surely depend on how you gauge success? If you are speaking of material success, as the world sees, it, then the answer is probably no. If you are speaking of success as God sees it, then I would say yes. Through prayer you become wiser, more faithful, more in touch with God. Your success is in becoming the person God wants you to be.

The definition of success is the hard part. Remember 11 of the 12 apostles were executed, but by God's term they were highly successful. In many respects God is like a boss. The better job you do , the more jobs (the more difficult too) he'll give you. Like the slacker at work and the good employee, they are both paid the same but the good employee is the one called on constantly to do the grunt work. That doesn't mean a life of poverty necessarily. But it might, if he needs you to be in that situation. It doesn't mean wealth unless he needs you in that situation. We are here for such a short time, kinda like the six weeks of boot camp before your 30 year military career. No matter how good or bad you have it here it is all to serve your purpose and if you achieve that purpose then you're successful and if you are the richest man in the world and ignore your purpose (God's will for you) then you have failed.

There is no compelling evidence that prayer has any effect on anything. Well besides perhaps reducing stress in the person praying. But any meditation could do that.

It depends on how you measure success. I measure it by not being a douchebag.
