yeah exactly. and you can see the agony in the dogs face and body language just what is wrong with some people. i think some people ought to be fixed to stop their genes from passing on...

I would have called PETA, the ASPCA, and animal control. I wouldn't have stopped until I got someone to step in who had authority. What happened here is illegal. Someone needs to be punished. All of the people that walked around and did nothing should be charged.

There is a legal fund set up to put people in jail for actions such as these. Please check it out.
Legal Animal Defense Fund
Maybe it's Animal Legal Defense Fund

They want to make animal abusers do jail time.

That poor dog, he did not do anything wrong. I do not understand how a human is able to let an animal starve to death. This is horrible. That dog was probably hoping one of those idiots standing by would feed him something. I can not believe a person would call this art! How in the world is this are? I will never understand. Domestic animals need humans to help them out, especially when the human chains him up so he can not seek out food for himself. Ugh...this guy is disgusting, I can not believe it......very very sad!! I will never under stand how a person could be so cruel, but I also believe those standing by should be charged as well, for they just stood by and did nothing......

OK OK First things first. As a human being - not just as a Christian humanbeing, I agree with this post. It's morally wrong and shows a complete breakdown of society. It is wrong wrong wrong.

Now then, as an artist and exhibit curator, one of the main purposes of art is to illicit an emotional response. That's not to say that the response is required to be one of 'Aw! Cute!" Indeed, a response of "My G*D! How Horrible!" is just as strong - if not more so - than "Aw! Cute!"

The catch is - morality. Art, at least true Art, is moral. It must send a message - even a cruel one.

However, this goes too far. Absolutely! It has gone too far. This is NOT art. It's shock - for its own sake. It is immoral.

So who was responsible for curating this show? Why was the artist even permitted to participate in the show? I've worked in galleries and juried shows before - and have always required a "statement of purpose and message" as part of the application to show - for every piece - but especially for "performance" art - that is, art involving living things.

Also, I have always required my exhibitors to comply with local labor, animal rights, access, and "anti-hate" laws etc. When no such laws were in place I made it a point to express in the exhibitors packet that exhibits depicting things like cruelty to animals (or torture of people) etc. would not only be rejected, but reported to authorities.

Are my actions censorshp? YOu betcha! But then, I would never have permited such rubbish to be exhibited.

That said, not only is the artist a scoundrel and cad for even thinking that his work had merit - but the gallery is equally, if not more so, for allowing this sick individual the opportunity to carry out his gross fantasies.

You can't say you care less about the spay/neuter subject because this dog was a street dog. He was homeless in the first place because his parents were left intact.

Not spaying/neutering which results in homeless strays is a form of animal cruelty. They are all linked.

As I answered a similar question about this 'artist' before, I hope someone sticks a long sharp paintbrush up his rectum and then gives him a turpentine enema. And I'll photograph it.

Sounds like 'art' to me.

EDIT: Thanks Amy- you can bring the funnel

I do not know what to do, but there is a special place for that guy, and I just read abbyful's answer, and I did not think about it before, but lord jesus those people are just as bad. Why did they not sneak it some food or call the cops? If I would of seen that I would of punched him in his artsy face and said the bruise was art, and stole the dog.

I didn't even look at the link. As you it simply breaks my heart & I wish I knew how to make the laws stiffer for animal neglect, cruelty & abuse!!
I just took in a senior Husky that he x-owner abandoned. If I hadn't been feeding her for the past two months she too would have starved to death.
If I could, I'd let that jerk go without food for weeks & show him what it feels like!!!

I think the person who did it should also be starved to death for the sake of art. What a sad way to die starving and alone. I can't believe people did nothing about this!

I heard about this b*stard before. Don't you just love his "poor me" comments on the site... He just wanted to make art and now he's being criticized and he doesn't appreciate that. Sicko!

*edit*
howldine has a GREAT idea for an art project! Can I help?
