Why would Adam need to eat if there was no death? Death came after he ate the from the tree of knowledge. Food only helps us stay alive. Adam was not going to die until he ate from the tree. Food was not keeping him alive. So why would he need to eat before he ate from the tree of knowledge?

Food was not the issue! Obedience was & when E. then A. in their Hearts (Minds / Souls) chose to Disobey, before eating, they Died Spiritually and being no longer Perfect, Physical Death also became a reality. U are correct in that God, the Creator of A. & E., not Food was their "Life Source". After Sinning, they became Dichotemous, as the Holy Spirit no longer could "Dwell" within them. So, no longer having the "Source of Life" in them, they now need Both Physical & Spiritual Food for Temporal & Eternal Life. John

Although the bible doesn't say why Adam tasted the fruit that Eve gave to him, there are clues as to what made him choose to do so. At 1 Timothy 2:14, we learn that Adam was not deceived, but that Eve was thoroughly deceived which shows that Adam knew what he was doing and what would happen to him if he ate the fruit. Remember how it was for Adam before Eve was created, how he was so lonely and remember how elated he was when God presented Eve to him? These two things, loneliness and elation may have been the elements that compelled Adam to taste the fruit. So when we put these clues together, we can see the possibility that when Adam learned that Eve had eaten from the forbidden fruit, he knew she would die and he loved her so very much that he couldn't face living forever without her.

There are two deaths, and you are confusing them both as the same thing.

Adam and Eve were created from the dust of the earth, subject to physical death as we know it:

1 Corinthians 15:45 And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.

That death that resulted from eating the forbidden fruit was separation from God, for it says, "in the day you eat of it, you will surely die" and "die" they did. They were cast out of the garden and out of the presence of God.

Colossians 2:13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;

Adam and Eve ate from other things in the garden. Their bodies required nourishment to survive.

Genesis 2:16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:

He was supposed to die the same day he ate it. The story says he lived more than 900 years. So did the myth get retrofitted, or did the translator get it wrong?

"But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die."

BTW, the statement wouldn't mean anything to Adam if there had never been death before.

Before Adam ate the Life was eternal. After he ate, the idea of death came into his mind as Life's opposite. Death is only mis-understanding LIFE!

Adam was tempted by the snake (the devil). When GOD put Adam on this Earth and Eve followed thereafter GOD gave both of them choices. Eve was tempted by the snake and her choice was to eat from the Tree of Knowledge. She found that the fruit tasted very good and offered some to Adam and the snake tempted him and he too ate of the tree of knowledge. He took the wrong choice as well. Hope this has helped, Blessings

It was tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil.

Genesis is clear there were other sources, likely all foods, available for eating.

Adam and Eve were physical beings who needed to eat. Their disobedience was sin, which mankind has been paying for ever since.

Based on your reasoning he didn't need to eat. And one could argue he simply ate because he wanted to. We eat when we dont' have to, right?

The only reason that Adam and Eve would not succumb to their own mortality is because of their proximity to the tree of life. So they needed to eat to sustain themselves and keep generally healthy for energy etc. I personally believe there was death before they sinned. Physical death that is. I believe Adam and Eve were created mortal but the ONLY reason they could live indefinitely was because of their proximity to the tree of life. Once, they were away from that tree that became vulnerable to their inborn mortality.

Before "The Fall", eating was simply for enjoyment and
pleasure. The same will be true in Heaven, as food is
mentioned in Revelation 22:2. Also, Jesus Christ
ate food after He was raised from the dead, which His new body did not actually "need".

God denied Adam knowledge of good and evil, the only way that Adam could attain it was to take it. It was not satisfying to just be God's pet, so Adam sought knowledge. The fruit represents knowledge and how it helps us grow and sustains us. Without it we are pets in paradise.

Just one of many possible interpretations of that story.
