Consider this hypothetically, please don't assume insult and please don't automatically react with the typical "That won't ever happen" response.
~ ~ ~ ~
Suppose that a tomb is discovered that contains intact documents written in phoenician, aramaic or whatever, that detail the mythology behind Abrahamic religions and link it all back to a single mortal man, who's remains are also found there, whose name is written simply as 'YHWH'.
Would you conclude that this was a hoax, something set up by Satan and/or his followers? Would you dismiss it as irrelevant to your beliefs? Again, I don't mean to insult, I'm just turning the "what would you do if it was proven that God existed?" question around, but I would like serious answers more than upset Christians.

Well, I would feel SO much less guilty about that time I had sex in a church bathroom...
But seriously, that would be awesome.

It's an interesting idea, but I'm still trying to picture it. Did the mortal claim to be the creator? And okay, maybe he wrote all the hundreds of commandments in the Torah; but somehow they struck a chord in the human heart, so it's hard to see them as without greater importance. And did this mortal YHWH also perform miracles? If not, how did he convince so many people that all this was his doing? I have trouble picturing it.
And then what the experiences of the Resurrection and the Holy Spirit in the New Testament? What did the mortal YHWH have to do with those?
Actually, if such a tomb was found, I would strongly suspect that it was either a hoax or that it had been badly misinterpreted. Like the accounts of a tomb carrying the name "Jesus son of Joseph," which has been reported. This wouldn't even be an unusual name, after all; or it may actually be a hoax.
Well I hope this helps....

Don't think that we would ever hear about it. Not because it could not happen, but the Vatican and Jewish leaders would never allow the documents to surface.
However if they did, then I would think that it would be significant discovery and would create years of back and forth arguments about the interpretations of the documents and its validity.
As for my personal take on it, it really would not make a difference in my faith. Faith being belief without proof. I have no proof now that God exists and I still choose to believe in God. So why would it matter if someone found a document that someone signed YHWH or not.

actually what you describe is mormonism.
the book of mormon was written by Joseph Spaulding (spelling might be different) who was a Presbyterian sunday school teacher who wrote these stories for his kids.
handwriting analysis of the "book" translated by joseph smith proves this to be the work of a dead man, 100 years before smith was born.
You question bears a lot of truth to that religion,
however, you have your answer in the millions of highly educated mormons who have never taken the time to research this and escape the mormon church.
Equally, the Tanner's have written on the mormons as they were members and people don't look into it. Frome Brodie wrote smiths biography, (i have a copy) and it outlines what a dead beat smith was.
so you have your answer in the history of the mormon church.
as for christians, if they are not examining their history and faith as carefully, turning every stone, then they too are fools, and without hope, for they could be living a lie. This is wherein appologetics takes a legal investigative view of our history, our God and the validity of it all.

I don't know, but on realistic side... they can't even find that evidence because he's neither immortal nor mortal, he's imaginary.
