I don't know why I'm responding to this, as you seem to choose answers that clearly disagree with you. I couldn't care less about Best Answers, but I feel that when WELL INFORMED people respond with intelligent answers, they deserve some respect.
There seems little point in spending further time here. Just one comment on GunnyC--another head in the sand? The majority ARE against this INVASION, (not war), the fallacious preemptive strike, supported by congress only because they believed in the fear tactics of deceit. "Shock & awe"! Give me a break.
We who KNOW we should get out of Iraq, are called unpatriotic; we don't support the troops. The only way we can support our troops is to bring them back, & not prolong this abomniable farce. Then, wouldn't it be "nice" to give them the care they need so desperately for destroyed bodies & minds? Nope. We have money only for killing.
One more thing; TV has nothing to do with the ignorant statements made. Journalists are CENSORED by the corporations who pull the strings of our so-called administration. One can always "confirm" their narrow-mindedness by watching & listening to idiots.

The fact is, the American people now have 20/20 vision. (Hind-site is always 20/20) We weren't told the real reason for the war with Iraq, because no one really knew. We were told that it was Saddam's weapons of mass destruction. That Saddam had or was building nuclear weapons. None were found, however. Today most Americans see us buried in a quagmire that is not only sucking billions of dollars from our pockets, but is costing lives of our young soldiers. Everyone in the word recognizes the fact that this world is a much safer and better place without Saddam and his hoodlums. The problem is that eliminating Saddam and his cohorts has put Iraq smack-dead into a civil war. Until the President and his administration are capable of admitting this fact we will be in Iraq. A civil war in Iraq is no place for the US military. I guess what everyone is holding out for is a Democratic society to emerge from Iraq. I seriously doubt that this will ever happen. This country has been in existence for thousands of years and has been run by religion for those years. Nothing else can be expected today! The people of Iraq live in a different world than we. Their lives consist of nothing but religion, and with a very few, oil, which we now find is the major reason for this war in the first place!

Some are against the war for various reasons ranging from not believing in the reason, not thinking it is necessary or personal reasons. That said I don't know what you mean by "so many" since most polls, done by civilian papers, show a great majority are not against the war and think it is the correct thing to be doing. The 10 to 20 percent, maximum per the surveys, are a minority and in many of the surveys they were for military people not just the veterans who had already been. Going back a few years to the Vietnam Veterans Against the War (VVAW); it was an organization founded by a "Vietnam veteran" who had never been there but identified himself as one because he was in while it was going on; a Vietnam Era veteran, and included any military personnel in it's group regardless of being an actual Vietnam veteran or not. This a point because it would interesting to see how many of your "many" are actually Iraqi vets and how many want it t end before they have to go to Iraq. Quit trying to push your agenda and beliefs off as facts unless you have something factually to back you up besides a site dedicated to what you believe and where you will hear and see what you want.

A Conversation With Three Iraq Veterans Against the War .

Getting down to Earth; there aren't so many. There are many more of us who want to go back and are proudly standing by to do just that. We see we are making a difference and we are helping; even if that small % of Iraqis (the ones who make the news) don't want us there or just don't care. Many of the "so many" you speak of are those who opposed it in the first place - the type of wankers who constently complained "I only joined for the money... whaa whaa whaa" etc. Furthermore, going back to Vietnam, the stats show: 91% were glad they served and 74% would do it again even knowing the outcome. (Westmoreland Papers et al)

You've been watching TV again haven't you? There are always veterans who oppose a war even World War II because they don't think the sacrifice was worth it. However, they are always in the small minority just like in this war unless you have some real proof otherwise. I'll ask my relatives (four have went, two are officers) but I already know they support the war effort.

The thing is they only publish the quotes from the very few veterans that didn't even want to be there in the first place. Talk to the other 98% and they will tell you the truth. They are glad they did what they did and are seeing changes over there for the better. The Iraqi people are happy we are there giving them freedom. I've done 3 tours and would do 100 more if need be. Semper Fi!!!!!

Hmm, unfortunetly the last 'in country' reenlistment rates were over 84%.
If 'so' many are against as you say, why reenlist?
The toll is hard and rates are down from 2006, but even down, 84% is a large reenlistment rate.

It's obvious from your other posts that you, yourself, are against the war. Tht is your right. But cherry picking statements.....come on now. I invite you to join me at the VFW or American Legion in Melbourne Florida, and we'll speak with every person who walks thru the door and see what they have to say. While you're here, we'll also go to the local VA clinic and talk to some American heroes.

Very simple -- after lots of first hand experience -- they realize that our presence over there is not helping -- and that huge numbers of Iraqis don't want us there.
If we're not wanted -- and our being there isn't helping -- and we're not getting anything out of it even if it were helping -- what possible value is there in wasting more American lives and more billions of dollars that could be invested at home.
