And don't theists know that telling an atheist they are going to hell is the same as telling them they should be very afraid of the little blue monster hiding in their closet.

I just find it funny that the threat is of a concept that we don't believe in.

No, it is not a threat. A threat is only when you tell someone that you may harm them in some way. It wouldn't be you sending someone to Hell, so the statement would be a warning (or, if there is no way out of it, merely a statement) rather than a threat.

Of course, Hell doesn't exist anyway, so someone telling me I'm going to go to Hell bothers me about as much as someone telling me that the Flying Spaghetti Monster is going to dump peanut butter on my head.

Telling someone they are going to hell is a scare tactic used by what I call hell fire preachers and some people hasn't let it go yet. Praise the Lord that a lot of ministers is getting away from this and is starting to teach and not threat.

If it were a threat, they would say they are going to SEND you to hell. They don't say that. They say you are going to hell. That's more of an advisory. The intention is to help you avoid hell, not to get you into hell.
Of course, in reality they don't know where you are going, and it may not really be useful to tell you that. But they aren't doing anything bad to you. At most they are being obnoxious. If that's the worst thing anybody ever does to you, you are well off.

Not only a verbal threat but verbal abuse. No one has the right to tell another that they are going to hell. Only GOD knows this information. When someone tell another they are going to hell they are judging that person, no one has the right to judge another. I hope this has helped, Blessings

It can only be a threat if the person told believes that "Hell" is an actual place to which one could go. Otherwise, it's just a peevish whine of displeasure.

I guess some people are trying to help? I personally won't say that because I am not the judge and I can not predict what is going to happen to someone in the future. I do believe that some people say that to be rude & ugly.

We are Suppose to OverCome "Evil" with "GOOD".

Hell is an Evil and Wicked Place.

NOBODY Needs to go there.
I'd Much Rather tell Others about the Love of GOD and Explain how satan Kills, Steals and Destroys then Makes Others Think GOD did it.

We are Living in the New Testament Now, it is a TIME of Redemption through what Jesus did on the Cross.
GOD is not Mad at People like HE Used to get in the Old Testament.

HIS Son, Died on the Cross. The Old Testament was done away with.
ALL are Wecome.

Hell is Still a Real Thing Now, but The Love of Jesus will keep us out of it.

It really isnt a threat if you dont really have any ability to carry it out or have someone else carry it out on your behalf.

If I said that if you walked down south central LA at night you are going to get beaten up, would that be a threat?

Or if I said you better be nice to me or youre not going to have any good karma, is that really a threat? I dont control karma.

It's no more a threat than telling someone Freddy Krueger will get them if they go to sleep tonight. The believers will be too paranoid to sleep, the non-believers will rest easy. Basically, it's a scare tactic. Telling someone that they'll go to Hell for not believing is just the standard response programmed into believers to get them to stay loyal to the church and convince others they should do the same. They can't help it, they actually believe that stuff.
