When you surrender a cat to a shelter you give up all rights to him and would not be allowed to see him. Unless you can personally arrange for an individual to take your cat you would not be able to have him back.

This must be very hard for you and I am sorry to hear you are in that situation. Your cat must go through an adjustment period and deal with his loss of not having you and his former home. If you were to "see" him it would only prolong his pain and not enable him to move on with his life.

Be sure when you release him that you let him know it is not because he is a "bad" boy or that he did something wrong to cause his loss.

Is there a relative that can take him with the understanding that you can have him back? This is about the only way to do it, most places that take cats for adoption don' t let you know who gets the cat, or even tell you if it was adopted at all or that they euthenized it.
