It really depends on what you have been diagnosed with. I personally only take 75mg per day, but we may have very different conditions. The Wythe (Effexor's maker) website states that no more than 275mg should be prescribed for moderatly depressed outpatients, people with GAD (generalized anxiety disorder), SAD, & panic disorders. Wythe actually only makes the pills in a max of 150mg (are you taking 2 a day?). However, studies were completed where people were given as much as 375mg a day, however there was no proven results of this being benifical at all.
I would also think that with the xanax, a person really wouldn't need so high a dose. Good luck!! You can always check out www.wythe.com for more information on Effexor!

I currently take 300 mg of Effexor. I was just bumped up from 225. I also take 1.5 mg of Klonopin. 300 mg of Effexor is a high dose. If anything, you could try taking less Xanax since Effexor is supposed to help with anxiety along with depression. I've noticed the more Effexor I take, the less I need my Klonopin.

Your Effexor is a little high...for depression, the maximum dose is usually around 225 mg/day, although for very severe depression you can go up to 375 mg/day. For anxiety and panic disorder, the max dose is 225 mg/day.
The Xanax is at an okay/pretty low dose...
You should talk to your doctor to make sure this higher level of Effexor is okay...

WOW, that seems really high....I take 37.5 mg Effexor each day as the 75mg was too high and I had worse depression on it. Be careful with the Xanax as it is very addictive. Some herbal remedies for anxiety and depression are st johns wort, a good vitamin B complex, Sam-e, and others.
