No, it is not impossible to feel like you are not in touch with reality when you are facing mental anguish like you have discribed. Have you tried to speak with your mother about how you feel? If you have and it didn't work, have you thought about moving out? Another option for you would be to talk to a therapist or counselor (even if it's a school or church counselor) about how you feel. You would be surprised how liberating talking about it with a professional can be. You can also learn techniques for dealing with your mother, if moving out and talking to her are not options for you. I would really recommend talking with someone professionally. Good luck!

You're not crazy. Your reaction is a normal one. Your mom can't accept that you are grown and is trying to treat you like a child. A friend of mine went through similar emotions with her parent. He was trying to control her. The emotions you feel are real. I'm sorry I don't have much advice about what action you should take. Maybe some counseling?

That situation is unfortunate......but it's normal for an 18 years old and parent. Most parents try to be conrolling....well...maybe not TRY to be controlling....but they do.
Think about it....they made you.....they love you....you came from them....you are part of them. Maybe they're over protective. Do you have a cell phone?....my mom put a lot more trust into me when I got a cell phone.....that way she can call me and make sure I'm safe.

Aww sweetie don't worry about it... if he honestly cares about you and is truly your friend, he won't care too much if your mom yelled at you.. and please.. you call this mental torture? Mental torture is when your parents call you a whore, tell you you take drugs, and say you skip class, when in fact you're only a kid, and the best in your class.. so this is NOT mental torture.

Yes it is possible. I'm still in therapy because of something very similar, and I'm 21. I would be happy to talk, or to listen, if you'd like to e-mail me.

It is time to move out on your own. Mother will never stop mothering you even when you are middle aged, she will still harp on you. The best way to buffer her is to get out on your own.
