I consider my land lady my friend and I am extremely greatful for her for taking me and my family in. She just returned from a month-long hospital stay out-of-state to diagnose her illness. She's on medication that doesn't sit well with her so she's ill all the time. Obviously food is out of the question. I don't think I want to get ther flowers either. Not only are they a little impersonal, but the smell may make her sick. My "thing" has always been angels. I get everyone I love one for most holidays. Is a special engraved angel ornament or an angel pin appropriate? Faith isn't an issue as far as offending her.... Any other suggestions? How do I get it to her without making her feel like she has to come out and greet me? (She pretty much stays home.)

She may not like ornaments or pins.

If she's ill and homebound, perhaps getting her a certificate for a house cleaning. You can always offer to go get her groceries, meds or something else practical. It's fall now so you could perhaps offer to do some chores that might be difficult for her to do at this time.

Better yet, call her and talk to her. Offer to go over for a visit and sit with her for a while and play cards or whatever.

Personalized Stationary? Something w/ her name or Monogram on it might be nice. There are tons of websites to choose from or you could even go to your local card and gift shop and chances are they can make it there as well. The turn around these days is really quick.
Leave her a voicemail that you've left a little something by her door, or ask if there is a good time for you to stop by and make her some tea.
Very thoughtful of you!
Good Luck!

I think the angel is a wonderful idea, but I hope she doesn't think that you are indicating that she might be going to heaven soon? I doubt it, but just checking.

How about an angel statue? A small one. Or the ornament sounds nice. I wouldn't go with the angel pin because that kidn of forces her to wear it, and if she doesn't like it she'll feel bad.

As for bringing it to her, just go to her place, knock, and go chat with her a bit and give it to her.

I saw your answer where you said you didnt like your forehead- I think bangs would be a good way to disguise it,....just a suggestion.

Why don't you get/make her an angel nechlace with "stay strong" or some other supportive message engraved on the back. you can gift wrap it and send it in the mail with a card. or you can leave it anonomouse and you can be her angel.

Seeing that you like angels, why don't you get her a figurine angel with her birthstone or the month she was born in. You can also get her an angel pin with her birthstone. You can also get her some stationary as well. You can also buy her some books on subjects that appeal to her. Go to her house and deliver these items yourself. She will welcome the company.

In your landlady's situation, she probably doesn't need any more knickknacks to get dusty. If you really wanted to show her your appreciation, I would offer to come help her out around the house, or run the errands that are bound to be too difficult for her at this time.

If a angel won't offend her it would be fine, a stuffed animal wishing her to get well soon might be nice also.

Try some unscented candles, my grandmother lites a candle when she feels bad or needs spiritual guidance, it is a tradition with her. Hope this helps.
