Our song was 4 whopping minutes long and we were dying!! After about 1 minute, we were whispering to each other "just 3 more minutes.. just 2 more minutes.. how much longer do you think?" And everyone is watching you. But then again we dont love the spotlight so maybe thats why it was so painful for us.

I would say cut it down for 2 1/2 minutes because after a minute, people get bored of seeing you two dance and all the hard work you put into learning to dance, I know you would want them at the very least to watch you dance. But if the dance is too long then their attention will drift and I know you don;t want that.

Enjoy yourselves and be happy no one will notice how long or short the dance will be Also we danced to Annie's song by John Denver and it is a short song and the DJ played it through 2 -3 X we wanted a song that described our love with out all the drama of romance as we were truly friends first.

Nothing personal, but as much focus as the couple and the parents put on those few little spotlight dances... your guests are waiting to hit the floor themselves!!
Short and sweet! Have your moment, and let everyone join the party! You didnt invite them to WATCH your special day, you invited them to be PART of your special day. Truth be told, some people dont watch the dances at all.... at the past 3 weddings i've been to... you could barely hear the music over the crowd talking during the couples dance.

Well I think that if you let your mom or maid of honor know that at about the 2 min mark she should start dancing too people will get the hint and it'll hopefully take the attention off you guys, or ask the dj to sort of fade into the daddy daughter dance at a certain point and then you can part with your new hubby and grab dad.

I have actually seen people do their actual first dance later in the reception. They danced with each other and did their thing, and later on they did their actual first dance. Hopefully if you wait a while and he warms up he will be up for it. And I think 2 minutes is too short. My song is pretty short so we are going to do a compilation of songs.

I think 2 min would be just fine. Believe me, you'll have enough to worry about at your wedding. There will be more dancing, yes? Have a shorter first dance, and then dance the night away with everyone else once the pressure is off.

For our first dance we picked a really long song and cut it down to 2 1/2 min. we had prepared for four min but in the end we were happy with the time that we had.

If you want to dance to the whole song after 2 minutes have the bridal party join in on the dance.

I would suggest that after about a minute or two, your father could possibly "cut in" and dance with you as the groom invites his mother to dance - combining three special dances into one and giving you company on the dance floor. Perhaps the groom's father could invite your mother to dance also. More interesting for your guests and less focus on you and your family!
