Man is in need of constant reform because of his sinful nature, sin deforms and so what is deformed needs reformation.
Luther saw this clearly in the church of his time, there was a Pope selling indulgences and certain Bishops leading extravagant and immoral lives.
We cannot deny this and nor should we,it would be an injustice against the Holy Spirit of truth.
Luther was right to challenge these things and had he been taken seriously by the Pope and Bishops, had they listened and changed their ways then Luther would never have been driven to make his fatal mistake of challenging church doctrines.
This was not his mandate from God to do,we remember the words of Christ concerning the Pharisee`s; `` Do as they say,not as they do``
Luther loved the one true church and had a great devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary,he never dreamed of starting another church,in fact Luther would be astounded at the Lutherism of today, no his fault was not in challenging the church of his day but allowing pride to engulf his heart because the Pope snubbed a mere Priest, and his hurt pride became a vehicle of rebellion.
Had the Pope and Bishops changed their ways then Luther would probably be hailed as another St.Catherine of Sienna during whose time the papacy was tragically weakened by contested papel elections, pope and antipope denouncing each other.Catherine supported the true Pope( Urban VI) even though he was a somewhat graceless man and her letters to him never hesitated to reprove him for his faults, but remaining loyal to him.
Luther was far less the vehicle of the reformation split than those who jumped on the bandwagon after him,and it is to these renegades that the blame properly belongs.
Luther spoke out against genuine wrong doing with the voice of moral truth, but what spirit spoke through those who came after him?

Is private interpretation of the Bible condoned in the Bible Itself? No, it is not (2 Peter 1:20). Was individual interpretation of Scripture practiced by the early Christians or the Jews? Again, No (Acts 8:29-35). The assertion that individuals can correctly interpret Scripture is false. Even the "founder" of Sola Scriptura (Martin Luther), near the end of his life, was afraid that "any milkmaid who could read" would found a new Christian denomination based on his or her "interpretation" of the Bible. Luther opened a "Pandora's Box" when he insisted that the Bible could be interpreted by individuals and that It is the sole authority of Christianity. Why do we have over 20,000 different non-Catholic Christian denominations? The reason is individuals' "different" interpretations of the Bible.

In conclusion, Scripture is pretty straightforward about the Church's role in salvation, Its authority and Its organization. It's all a matter of deductive reasoning, correct interpretation and pure logic

Excellent answer Sentinel.

That's about it in a nutshell. The Catholic Church is full of people...and people have a tendency towards sin and corruption. This does not undermine the authority of God's Church and Martin Luther would have been a great saint had he reformed from within. He chose instead...to set himself up as a pope and he took many people with him. He became the Father of Chaos and a heretic.

Luther should never have removed seven books from the original Bible and also put the Letter of James in the Appendix because James said "faith without works is dead." Luther came up with a doctrine that rejected the idea of purgatory (held as a belief for 15 centuries) and, as I recall, taught that faith in Christ alone will save one from damnation.

i think of the variations that Vatican II delivered approximately are very constructive, no longer heretical. a million) Christ taught that His church could on no account instruct blunders. He has persevered to maintain this promise. 2) changing from the Tridentine Mass to the Novus Ordo Mass made each and every thing extra ACCESSABLE TO the elementary guy. This became the purpose of Christ, for this reason why the temple viel became torn whilst He became crucified. I mean, think of roughly it. in case you're taking a type in college, and you could desire to make an A to maintain your GPA up, and the classification is presented in Latin (which you do no longer talk) or your guy or woman language, which language will you're taking the classification in? your guy or woman, of direction! that's an analogous with the Mass. How are we to appreciate God's message if that's dropped at us in a language that we don't understand? i could desire to have purely come into the Catholic Church a touch over a 300 and sixty 5 days in the past, yet I even have seen a Tridentine Mass, and that i could no longer understand a notice! The Church is by no skill shifting in direction of Protestantism. we are merely making the religion extra accessable to all of us, in view it rather is the message that Christ gave us and what Christ needed, that we could all be one. If we did no longer try this, then we could desire to no longer declare to be the Catholic Church, because of the fact Catholic skill customary, and if we purely make God accessible to those that understand Latin, how could desire to we be customary?

He rejected the entirety of the Epistle of James, for one thing.

He went against the standardized church at the time and taught that salvation could be grasped by faith and grace, not works or good deeds. People today still try to earn their way into heaven but it will not work because no one is good enough, only Jesus Christ. We will be welcomed in only if we have been forgiven of our sins and believe in Him.
