Hasbro has just changed his name to Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity and says he now is a U.S Marine who answers to the U.N. They say they need to distance him from the U.S Military. I for one find this sickening and will not give my money to such an un-American American company as Hasbro.

I did provide links. They are right there, and they were only 2 of many that I could have posted. Google it yourself if you don't like my provided links. It is the truth. I have already e-mailed Hasbro that I will no longer be a costumer of theirs if this is how they choose to portray our brave Men in Uniform.

Yeah, I got that lame canned response from Hasbro, too, and I fired one right back at them that I was not fooled for one minute. Hasbro authorized the portrayal of the character when they signed the contracts to use the likeness of their product. They were fully aware of what would be done to the character and what his allegiance would be in the movie. It is nothing but smoke and mirrors to blame Hollywood producers and writers like they were totally blindsighted by this. And just because they changed the base of operations from Brussels due to public pressure, it does not change the fact that the G.I.J.O.E (gag) Team will be a U.N taskforce getting that big bad Scottie at their behest. Sickening.

That can't be true. Did you hear this on AM call in show or something?

I may be wrong, but when I heard this I thought it referred to a live action movie that is based on the Hasbro toy. Given that the bulk of Hasbro's profit on GI Joe comes from the US, I would be surprised if they were the ones making the change. Now for a movie studio that is depending on international box office receipts, this would not surprise me at all.

I didn't get worked up about this as the movie will likely flop anyway. If it even makes it to theaters.

I just visited their website and see no indication that this is true. Misinformation, I say. The items you refer to do not reflect on Hasbro. It is the socialists in Hollywood that are trying as hard as they can to be un-American (something they are quite good at). See a current item "G.I. JOE A REAL AMERICAN HERO COBRA MEDI-VIPER Modern Army Figure" listing from their website at the link below. A full 17 of the GI Joe figures in their list are listed as "GI Joe A Real American Hero". There are none listed as "Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity".

Here is the response I got from inquiring about this to Hasbro:

"Thank you for contacting Hasbro, Inc. We are pleased to be able to respond.

Hasbro’s G.I. Joe Team wanted to take this opportunity to clarify some of the facts regarding the G.I. Joe live-action movie that we are developing with Paramount Pictures.

First and foremost, we are not changing what the G.I. Joe brand is about. The name “G.I. Joe” will always be synonymous with bravery and heroism.

The G.I. Joe brand has enjoyed a successful 43-year history, spanning two key generations. The first was the line of 12-inch “realistic military” figures that were popular with kids in the 1960s and 1970s.

The second generation, was created in 1982, and is based on a cast of fictional heroes and villains that make up the “G.I. Joe vs. Cobra” fantasy. The premise of this fantasy is the story of the G.I. Joe team, led by Duke, and their “fight for freedom wherever there is trouble” against the evil Cobra Commander and his Cobra force. This storyline was an instant hit with kids in the early 1980s, spawning a highly popular 3-3/4-inch action figure line, comic book collection and animated series.

This movie will be a modern telling of the “G.I. Joe vs. Cobra” storyline and its compelling characters that Hasbro created 25 years ago. The G.I. Joe team will not be based in Brussels. Instead, they will be based out of the “Pit” as they were throughout the 1980s comic book series. And, in keeping with the G.I. Joe vs. Cobra fantasy, the movie will feature characters and locations from around the world. Duke, the lead character and head of the G.I. Joe team, will embody the values of bravery and heroism that the first generation of G.I. Joe figures established.

G.I. Joe is a very important property to Hasbro and we thank all of our fans for their enthusiasm. Without all of you, the brand would not be where it is today.

Again, thank you for contacting us."

This is crazy in the time we should be supporting our troops the most the corporate idiots at Hasbro come up with this. They need to have a boycott of their other toys to teach them a lesson, but those probably are from China with a high lead content anyway.

Looks like G.I. Joe has joined Action Man, the British version which has been running since 1966, in joining an international, coed task force charged with defeating bad guys.

Link?

You are going to have a lot of gullible people thinking that you are serious. Don't you guys even think to question posts like this?

Nice of you to add links after the fact and then say that they were there all the time. Take a look at your question. See where it says "Additional info". That is the proof that they were added later.

I notice the the links say that Paramount changed the name IN THE MOVIE to appeal to a wider audience. Hasbo has not changed the name.

If you stick to actual facts, people will understand a bit more about what is going on.

So what is your complaint? That the US operates in UN forces? What do you think that US soldiers did in Korea. That was a UN force. Why do you think that those soldiers were unpatriotic and un-American? Do you think that those soldiers would agree with you?

So I guess now its "G I JOE, real United Nations HERO". Wonder if he will finally get to kill someone.

edit: I think it is total BS, but by him being a UN soldier doesn't that mean he is more than likely still US since every time the UN goes somewhere it really means the US is having to go somewhere, UN what a joke
