Put up a found poster and see if anyone contacts you. Continue to feed and water it though. If it is someones they will call. Also place an ad in the local paper. If no one answers with in a week or two, hes yours for the taking.

I know what you mean. Honestly, I don't think he probably has a home if he's really thin and always wants food. He could just be very friendly. If he does have a home, they obviously don't take very good care of him if he's always hungry and thirsty, and so skinny. I'd say take him to the vet and adopt him as your own. If you're worried about fixing him and then someone having NOT fixed him for a specific reason, then don't. If they were a reputable breeder they'd not have let their cat out like this anyway, especially without looking - and anyone who would be that irresponsible doesn't need to be breeding cats, period.
Good luck :)

Bless your heart for reaching out and wanting to take this little guy in. I give you a lot of respect for that. As far as wondering if it is someone else's cat, its seems as though its not. First off, if it was suppose to be an outdoor cat, it should have a collar on, but honestly, if you live an apt complex, chances are you are surrounded by parking lots, and plenty of traffic coming in and out which isn't conducive to having an outdoor cat. You state that he/she is always hungry and thirsty, which means if it does have an owner, they are severely neglected the poor creature. Personally, If you want this little kitty, she is as good as yours. He will be very grateful and comfortable living with you.
Lastly I wanted to comment on putting up posters. If this kitty has a loving and caring owner, then THEY should have been putting up lost cat posters around your building. If you want this kitty then why should it be your responsibility to post any found posters around the area. I don't think you she be aiding to any neglectful owner and alerting them that that you have the cat. Keep the little sweetheart!! hes your now!! and Thankyou =)

I dont think it sounds like it has a home so take it. If it is skinny and is always hungry then that means that even if it does have a home they could be mistreating it. Take it in then if you see any missing posters with its photo or description on then you can take it back. You could even put up lost and found posters if you are really worried. I took a cat in a while ago. It is a really nice cat but it had really bad flea's, worms and was pregnant. She is due very soon anyway to get to the point i found the owner and he just said keep it cause i never had time to feed it.

He should be treated as a stray. If someone "owns" him then they shouldn't be allowed to have him. Take him in and get him checked out by a vet before something terrible happens to him. He may have gotten loose from someones house, but he still needs to be rescued now.
Possession is 9/10ths of the law. If you take in a starving unidentified kitten, you are by no means a "catnapper". You would be doing a good thing so don't worry about it.

The way you could tell is that the little guy was hungry and thirsty and is very thin which could only mean that he is a stray and i think that it would be the right thing for you take him in because if he already had a home he would of had a collar and would of been well fed I think that is very nice of you to care for other animals and am very happy for you

Most cats that are well taken care of have collars so I would think that would be a good sign and also if he looks neglected it could be that he is used to humans because someone failed to have their cat spayed and when the kittens were old enough they just threw them out. What I would do before you go spending alot of money on him is to post a found cat flyer around your apartment building and when people call ask them to describe them cat that way you dont get people just trying to get a free kitten.

Sounds like the kitty you found is in one of two situations. Either he has a home and they don't take very good care of him or he had a home and was dropped off (in an effort to get rid of him) near a place where a lot of people live in hopes that someone, like you, would find him and take hime in. I'd ask around a little or put up posters about a kitten you found and if no one responds, I would take him in.

You can`t as cats wonder by their nature, and condition is not always an indicator as some cats are skinny or dirty. They could be classed a may be neglected but not stray .
Ask around the area you found it you may discover that it lives close by, if no one claims it then check the lost and founds in the paper. If no one claims it keep it for your own.
The condition you say the cat is in, looks like a neglected cat and so i think even if it has a owner it may be better off not going back to its owner but to be kept and looked after by some one who cares --- YOU.

i dont no how to tell really, but funny enough the same thing happened t me. thekitten kept comin in thru my kitchen window as i have to leave it open for my other cat. so in the end i wormed the kitten and de flead the poor thing and gave it a tablet to keep fleas of in the future. now he acts as if it is his home as he comes in and out all the time and sleeps with us at night.
you wont be a catnapper to him or her you will feel like a mum to the kitten. i did and he is the best
