I have PTSD and I rarely have attacks unless there's a trigger. What are good strategies to cope?
No input from Ryan please, he obviously has no clue what it is and his psychologist misdiagnosed him. Would you like to have images before your eyes that have already happened? And then you can make fun of people.

Hi.. i have listed a couple websites below -- one which gives a list of good books on PTSD for self-help, and another site dealing with PTSD with a lot of good information.

I have PTSD also, and i have had to learn to avoid situations and especially certain people and personalities who are apt to cause triggers.

We can't always avoid those situations, and another thing i do, is WALK AWAY from situations which are uncomfortable.

I myself have been diagnosed with PTSD. I can't help you much but maybe we can get together and chat about our symtoms. They have resantly put me on proxac and I can't tell if it is working. The anxiety and panic attacks are getting the best of me. I have a hard time dealing with my day because of it. I have and appointment tomorrow with my theripist and my med evaluator and will talkt to both of them about the anxiety. If I comtinue with the anxienty and panic attacks I'm afraid that I won't get any better. Alot of people have told me that I need both anti-depressant and anti-axiety. Not sure yet what will happen but can't continue my life like this. It is destroying me and my family because nobody knows what to do for me. If you have anything to add for me I would appreciate it and maybe we can become im friends.

I have suffered from the same thing before and here is what worked for me....when I felt an attack coming on, I would have to remind myself to breathe (isn't it funny that we actually forget sometimes), and focus my mind on the fact that it all ready happened...it is not happening again, and I survived the first time, I will be fine this time. It sounds simple, but I just empowered myself...told myself how strong I was, made myself go places and look at things that honestly scared the crap out of me, so that I could face the future...it worked for me. Hi, I've just answered your previous question. Hope you are feeling a little more with it now. When you are going through the flashback, try to focus on things that prove you are not actually back there, with it all happening. So things that have today's date on are useful. Try to find something you find soothing and try to soothe and comfort yourself. Call someone if you feel able. Just try to take care of yourself and tell yourself that you are safe now.

Do de-stressing things like massages, yoga, tai chi, exercise, and meditation. See site below on psychologists telling that the secret to happiness is relaxation.

Look into EMDR therapy.
