the question is too subjective. there would be a substantial difference of the total amount of weight needed to be lost to see a decrease of 1" on the waist for a 200 lb person as compared to a 100 lb person

I lost 8 inches (42 to 34) and at the same time lost about 40 pounds. So I'd say 5 pound to the inch

It really depends on your total weight and how that weight is distributed. For someone who is already in their healthy weight zone (for their height), five to ten pounds could equal one inch lost in the waist.

Well to lose 1lb from all over, usually between 5lb-8lb depending on height and how much of the weight loss is actual fat.
