You will have to format and install XP over vista. Do backup your files before doing this. Obviously you will need an XP license to do this.

If the reason that you want to do this is because Vista is too damn slow I would suggest going over the settings and removing all the unnecessary effects. I have tried that and it kinda works.

Hi, I don't know why u would want to remove Windows Vista and go back to Xp. Vista is way more secure and stable than Windows Xp. Its has aero effects and a better interface also it comes with DirectX 10 which means that u can play all ur games. If u still want to go back to Xp, then do the following steps:
1.back up all ur data.
2.download Windows Xp drivers for all ur hardware and store them onto a cd.
3.download kill disk or ur hard disk manufacturer's diagnostic tools to completely erase ur hard disk. You can also insert ur Windows Xp new install disc and boot up from that and delete all partitions and create new ones but I recommend erasing it with some tools so it makes ur data unrecoverable.
4.Now continue installing Xp on drive c:
5.Install the drivers u downloaded for ur Xp system and windows is now setup.
I hope I helped.
Good Luck!

Yes, format the hard drive, and install xp. Make sure you backup or copy all of your files to a cd or memory stick before formatting though as it will erase those files.
