Yes just go into your XP control Panel, go to Sounds and Audio Devices. Then the Sounds tap. At the bottom find the Windows Start sound, and then click browse to find a different sound. I think it still has to be in the WAV format?

Click on Sounds tab
Scroll down to Windows start up click and browse to change music to another sounds file stored on your computer.

Right click on the speaker icon in your system tray.
Go to Adjust Audio Properties.
Pick the Sounds tab.
Scroll down to the Start Windows option.
Click on it & you can change over to any other .WAV file you have on your PC.

Look for the option Start Windows. Also there is an arrow next to the list of sounds to preview what noise it makes

Unfortunately no, unless you update to a later version of windows like Vista or whatever you will have to stick with the music you have, otherwise just mute your speakers!
