westerners in china?

i'm from australia& im planning to go to china with my 2 friends, one is chinese but she's a local. i was pretty shocked by a lot of the answers on here, i feel very ashamed of any australians who would treat chinese locals badly out of ignorance and a delluded, egotistical sense of racial supremity

conversely, i'm still a student and we have many international students from china. i have international friends, & i find them all to be very studious, cultured, honest and decent. a few international students are "corrupted by the western view" - which is that they have misinterpreted how australians live and sleep around & blow their parents money.

there are some australians who look down on the international students - very few, but they are, in every sense, ignorant, prejudice, uncultured idiots.

for me, i don't care if they're chinese or not, i view them as just individuals & they fit in very well.

so, how do the chinese really view australians/americans - is there a difference?

All races have prejudice people. Doesn't matter if you White, Yellow, Brown, Black, green or blue.

I think you should feel proud of your own culture, but not to the point where you don't appreciate other people for their culture(s). We should not go through life thinking we are worse than other people, but it is equally as bad to think of being superior to others.

You can't really generalize, although it is the easy way to treat people. I personally NEVER met any Australian here or abroad with whom I had any affinity. Those whom I met were arrogant, borderline racists, rowdy and loud...BUT my own experience does NOT mean anything and it certainly does not reflect how these people are individually and collectively. Same with Americans whom in general I find very friendly, or Chinese...most of the Chinese I met in China are very friendly and pleasant (except a very few) and are outward looking, but on the other hand, most overseas Chinese are not at all interested in knowing the cultures of the people of the places where they settled, in Asia or North America, and appear to want to live in their own world.

But regardless of the good or bad experiences I had with people individually or collectively in the past, I try to keep an open mind whenever I meet someone new. Even Australians! Race or culture or language or sexual orientation should not taint our views of others.

In the eyes of a Han Chinese, ALL Westerners all Big Nose and 老外, not to be trusted until proven otherwise. It had been like this since ancient times.

The Chinese believed that they are the superior human being in the universe, all other types of people are barbarians.

See the similar traits in all other types of races????

You will be shocked when you get to china, it is chock full of western men preying on Chinese women. Some of the women are hookers yes and some just want a ticket to NA or Australia or where ever and think all foreigners are rich - BUT there are thousands and thousands of men who appear to be "decent" because they are teachers and the one thing on their mind is to use and abuse the Chinese women. ALL they care about and brag about is having sex with as many as they can, they promise these women they will marry them, take them "back home" with them - and then have sex with them and dump them.

A doctor in Beijing told me that she sees thousands of young Chinese women with STDs spread by these pigs -

We can't really generalize on races. Unfortunately, lots of people do.

I never met any Australians before so I can't tell you that. I just want to say have fun in China and be careful your wallet.

Why does it surprise you? White people have been taking the piss out of China for centuries. Just look at how they carved it up in the 18th/19th century. There is a sense of racial supremacy, and worse, alot of Western men see China, and the orient as a place to go to get easy sex. It's not helped by the fact that alot of oriental women see Westerners as a way to improve their lives. You'll see when you get there. Enjoy!
