If you buy a car, sign the papers and everything and drive it off the lot, guess what - YOU OWN IT!!! There is no 3 day cooling off period for you to change your mind - you went out looking to buy something and you did it. if a car salesman came to your house and asked you to buy a car without you asking him to, then you have 3 days - but not when YOU go to the car lot to buy a car. I like the idea of presenting her with a matchbox car and taking her with you to go pick out her new car together. Buy her something she doesn't really like, and telling her she is stuck with it for the next 4 years is one way to make sure you sleep alone on the couch a lot...

Don't count on it.
I always thought buying someone a car as a surprise gift was a stupid thing to do. "Happy Birthday Honey, Here's your new car (and the payment book to go along with it)". How romantic....
A large financial decision like that should be a shared discussion between spouses. Nothing wrong with going out to pick one out together and surprising her after she's made her choice, but a total surprise is just waiting for an opportunity to backfire on you.

I would take her to diffferent car dealerships and just mention that you have been thinking about getting a new car. Act like your really looking for something and I'm more than sure she will tell her likes and dislikes in cars and might even tell you what car she likes.

Once it is paid for .....no. What you should do is when you are ready to surprise her with the gift, take her and let her pick it out. That way you know she will like it.

1.) Explain the details to the saleman/manager! Get Pre-qauilified for finance!!, Get them to let you take it home over nite to see her reaction! 3.) If she dosen'nt like it take it straight back, let her pick it out, and sign the papers!! The dealership, you & your wife wwins!! If they refuse, find another dealer is really wants to sell you a car!! GOOD LUCK

Find out her favourite colour; a huge start.
Lessens the chances of having to return it.

Depends on the contract you sign with the dealership.
Honestly, I don't think anyone would turn away a free car...I'm sure she'll love it.

why not let her pick one out that she likes-get a matchbox car-wrap it up with a note that says let's go car-shopping.
