im 30 i have borderline personality disorder, ptsd reall bad to...............my thoughts race daily where i can't think strait or concentrate, cant hold onto a thought....cant hold my train of thought....i keep forgetting.....this happens every single day.
i find it very distressing.
i have alot of pent up anger from past bullying, where it went suppressed......years ago i had rage attacks in public where i would shout...start fights with people.....misinterpret threats...i would have out bursts of anger i couldnt control.
this has gotten better, i control it great, but still have all the underlying feelings.
my panic and anxiety so bad i dont leave my apartment unless i have to...i avoid public spaces.....i have been attacked by street gangs, when i used to have rage attacks, so this is why i think.
i have paranoid thinking that people are out to get me or ruin me...i find it hard to trust people. im always on the defensive and guarded.
to help me, can anyone 'define' the treat

treatment i should be recieving?

i know its a strange question, but
its so i know what help to seek..

theyve offered psychotherapy, but my symptoms
ive described are very debilitating.

is this enough?
my psychiatrist wont perscribe any meds because
he said their addictive.

plus he said, the psychotherapy centre wont accept
people who are taking meds. you have to be off meds.

so what should i do?
if i only get 1 good answer i dont care, as long as
your specific about what help to seek.
and whether psychotherapy is enough for me.

taking into account to all the symptoms i live with

I read a book about a girl/woman who had borderline personality disorder called "Get me out of here". The author is Rachel Reiland. She did psychotherapy for her borderline personality disorder and it worked, so yes psychotherapy is probably what you need.

Here are some Q&As with Rachel about her borderline personality disorder you might find interesting:

Or you can join a bpd group and discuss with other borderline sufferers what treatments worked best at http://www.bpdcentral.com/

I find it odd that your GP wouldn't prescribe meds to you on the grounds that they are addictive. It surely is better to be on meds than live as you have to do. I think that some of the answers on here a very sound and if possible, you might think about changing your doctor. I also believe its a good idea to accept all the help offered and try it. You don't know if its any good for you until you have. Your treatment, as you put it, is going to be very wide ranging but for the most part, you need to sort out what has happened, why you are feeling the way you do now, and what you can do to make it right. Thats very simplistic but psychotherapy will at least deal with points one and two. For further help, a few sessions of group therapy for anxiety would be a boost for you. It helps to know that other people feel the way you do too and its also a form of socialisation which you sadly lack presently. So, look out for a group, change your doctor and get some medication prescribed and then ask firmly for therapy sessions as well. You are doing well just getting on here and asking all the questions. I appreciate it - I know its hard.

I don't understand why, if a person is on medication, they can not seek talk therapy ? That doesn't make sense to me.

I think the best help you can receive is talk therapy -- and if you do receive it, it will take much more than just a few sessions to start feeling better... it's taken you a lot of time to develop this illness and these feelings, and it is going to take time to learn to cope and manage the illness.

Have you considered switching doctors, if possible?

You could also look into EMDR therapy if it's available in your area. I have listed websites below on EMDR.

You could also look into websites and forums about Borderline Personality Disorder.. perhaps communicating with your peers in a forums community would help also?

I have also listed two BPD online communities in which you might meet some people and get helpful information.

take care... and i hope you get the good help you need and deserve.

First of all kiddo, your seeing the wrong doc. Ya need to start with meds. Who cares if their addictive? I have a chemical imbalance that no amount of therapy is gonna cure. So, if I take a pill once a day for the rest of my life, so what? My hubby has high blood pressure and diebetes..takles meds..because if he doesn't, he could die.. You should be on an antidepressent. I'm not talkin' about downers, just a med to help with your seratonin deficiency...which is causing you anxiety (and those wonderful racing, scary thoughts), depression, and the lovely paranoia and anger that comes with it. Once you get a hold of that part of your disorder, the rest of your wellness will follow so much easier, I promise. Please find out about medicine, antidepressents. I do care that you start feeling well.

You need to find (quickly) a different psychiatrist who will take your symptoms seriously enough to prescribe something. In this day and age, meds are available to make your life better. Don't think you have to live this way, find the help you deserve and you WILL have a better life.

I'm so sorry for what you're going through. Here's what I did, I went to webmd and put in your symptoms and came up with either generalized anxiety disorder and/or adult depression. There were others, but those were the most obvious ones. I hope this helps, and btw don't feel alone, a lot of us have emotional and mental problems as well. I really hope you find what you're looking for. Good Luck!

DBT Therapy has been very successful in the treatment of BPD. You also sound like you would benefit from some type of anti-anxiety medication so that you can function enough to leave the house. Good luck.

please find yourself a treatment you are comfortable with and feel you are making progress..... don't be changing docs all the time and give someone a try that you are comfortable with.... I'm not sure what their title should be, or who is best but you need to feel good about the help you are getting....this will take time, be patient, I've been in therapy 7 years and God isn't finished with me yet..... give yourself a break and take it day by day.... make small steps but feel and see progress..... good luck to you

Only a psychiatrist can determine this after talking to you.
