There are some similarities, in that certain things are so obviously "wrong" that you will find them listed in any decent set of "laws" - murder, rape, adultery, stealing, perjury, etc. And both set of laws include that idea that the punishment for a crime should fit the crime committed. For example, if you damage your neighbors ox, you should pay the price of the ox, not be executed.

But beyond that, the Mosaic law is every different. It includes a series of religious rituals, sacrifices, and holy days not found in the Hammurabi code. While both list different "crimes and punishment", only the Mosaic code also deals with repentence and forgiveness.

The Hammurabi Code is primarily secular in nature, while the Mosaic Law is religious in nature.

The laws Moses delivered are much more than the hammurabi code, so of course you will find laws similar. keep in mind besides the Torah there is also the Mishna which Moses also delivered.

Good question...I think. Go a step further and discover that a LOT of Jewish stories bear striking similarities to stories of neighboring peoples. The flood tale for one. Just goes to prove...there's nothing really new in the world.
