I would recommend going to class anyway and being around people. By withdrawing and isolating yourself from people, you will just wind up feeling worse. I know from experience. I went though some of the same things in college.

Also, your college probably has counselors that deal with issues like yours. They are usually free or very inexpensive. I would suggest going to one of them. They probably could help you the most.

And make sure you don't withdraw from your friends. They are your support line and they want to help you. Don't push them away just because you feel down.

Definitely go to the college's counselors. It will help. And don't think that it makes you weak. Everyone goes through tough times sometimes, and having someone to talk to is a good thing.

You need to go see your college psychological counslers right away before this gets worse. You are definitely depressed and it sounds like you are also having anxiety. I think it is a legitimate reason for not going to classes but your teachers may feel different. First go see your school psychologist (or go to the health center) and see if you should be getting counseling and maybe taking a medication like Prozac. See if they can suggest on how you can approach your teachers. If you have only missed a couple of classes, you are okay! I would go in and tell them that you have been feeling depressed lately (almost everyone does at some point in their lives!) and that is why you missed your classes. Ask them if they can give you an extension on anything that was due or if you missed a test and catch up. This is nothing to feel silly about! A school psychologist may even write you an excuse. You need to find out why you are depressed. Sometimes it can be caused by a medical problem. I STRONGLY recommend having your thryoid level checked which is a major reason for depression. It is a simple blood test that the health center can do. I really recommend it especially if you don't know why you are depressed (like if you haven't had a recent break-up or death in the family or something like that). You have friends which is great because they can be a good support system. There may even be meetings at your school's mental health center for you to discuss issues with peers. I went through college with severe depression and anxiety. It was rough. I did get a lot of help from my college's psychologist and psychiatrist though. Are you getting enough sleep? That is important. Also, AVOID DRINKING at parties if you are into that. Drinking can make depression so much worse and even create it. I wish you the best of luck, you'll feel better soon!!!!

First things first! Definitely go see a doctor, these description you are giving are some sort of signs of depression.

Talk to your school guidance counselor, let them know you need some time off as doctors request(If he says so) Don't just miss school, college is an expensive investment.

If you do get some days off, I'd suggest you go out for long walks and see the world as maybe you are stressing out about school, money, partner(If any)...Etc.

Of course it's a valid excuse. I suffer from depression, but it is controlled my medication; however, sometimes (especially in the winter) it comes back a little bit, and I do miss class. I usually send my teacher an email and explain that I have dealt with depression for a long time and that it has come back, and that it is taking time for me to see a doctor and get things under control again, and that I'm sorry, etc.
If you talk to the counselor, just say what you JUST wrote! Be honest. Depression is NOTHING to be ashamed about.

If you have a medical note/documentation that won't allow you to go to school, 1 is fine. 3 is fine with medical note? 4 unless it's severe or you're going for a doctor's appointment, that's not a good reason. Colds are common. 5 Probably not, family deaths only. 2 is okay if you have documentation the next day.

I feel like this often too- personally the only thing that helps when I am feeling like this is exercise.

After I go swimming this really lifts my mood and I feel much more full of energy.

I also have to keep watch on my diet- lots of fish, fruit and vegetables helps. If I eat too much starchy food or generally have a poor diet I get really down the next couple of days.

Drink lots of healthy green tea too

First, talk to your college about it. They may have an on-site counselor that you can talk to and maybe be referred to a doctor.

Otherwise, you can see if you can get a few days off until you can see a doctor, and provide a note from the doctor explaining the situation.

Plenty of people collect disability payments from the government because they have unresponsive depression.

You're young and you need to get on top of this SOON, before it drags you down completely. College is prime time for depression to get worse, especially around this time of year. See a doctor about it.

Hi... feelings are not silly, they are REAL however. You could be suffering from depression, and it's not a character flaw, or a bad thing. In fact, doctors deal with these issues on a daily basis and it won't come as a shock or suprise to yours if you go to him with your problems.

The key to survival is taking care of yourself... and i hope you will see your doctor for advice and help in this situation. You deserve good help, hon. take care.

Go and see your G.P you sound as though you are going through a period of clincal depression.

I know exactly what you are going through. I remember the days I had when all I wanted to do was stay in bed and cry. I havnt had one of those days for nearly two years now, thanks mainly to citalopram.
