YES! I have both severe depressison and severe anxiety. I take Prozac and Xanax and they are working well. I'm surprised if you have post traumatic stress disorder that your doctor is not prescribing an anxiety medication. Just be careful with Xanax, Valium, and Ativan. They belong to a class of drugs called benzos and they are addictive. You don't want to get addicted, it'll just be another stressor in your life. You must talk to your doctor TODAY and tell him that you need something for your anxiety that works when you start feeling a panic attack. He may suggest something non-addictive like Trazadone or Cerequil which I think make you feel messed up and not relaxed like Xanax. If he is worried about addiction, assure him that you will just use them temporarily and maybe just as needed. If he (OR SHE, SORRY) says no, then see another psychiatrist. I hope you are seeing a counsler as well to deal with whatever caused the PTSD. If the incident was that traumatic and ruining your life and nothing helps, you may want to look into electric shock therapy which isn't as scary as it is depicted in movies. It'll make you forget the incident and you can go on with your life. You may want to research it. I'm scared of it myself but have talked to several people that it worked miracles on. If you want to talk, you can e-mail me. I am 34 and have had depression and anxiety since I was a small child. I have also had some very traumatic experiences in my life as well as battled drug and alcohol addiction. I also studied psychology but it doesn't make me a qualified expert which you should be seeing! GOOD LUCK! Life will get better. Try doing thing you enjoy and relieve stress. I find walking my dogs a tremendous stress reliever or reading a good book or watching a good movie!!!

Lots of people are on both, but doctors don't like giving out anxiety pills because they can be addictive. They may try other things first.
Depression and anxiety are really closely related, and sometimes an anti-depressant relieves the depression so that makes the anxiety seem worse - it was just masked by the depression before.
Cymbalta has been really great for me, maybe prozac just doesn't work well for you?

I have severe anxiety(amplified by social situations) and depression.
I have been on many antidepressant/antianxiety combinations. There are also a lot of medications that can help both, though they never seemed to work for me.
I would talk to your doctor about xanax for when you feel you are getting a panic attack, or before stressful situations.
They may also prescribe you a daily dose if they are severe enough.
(I was on seroquel and prozac, which helped with my anxiety.. also risperdal and prozac, but it is fairly strong)

Most should take medication for anxiety, especially if they take Prozac. It isn't the same for everyone, but I didn't have problems with anxiety on Lexapro. The two disorders are related.

Talk to your Dr or psychiatrist about it. There are actually soem drugs which are designed to work for both anxiety and depression, atlhough they don't work well for everyone. There are certainly anti-depressants and anti-anxiety drugs that can be taken at the same time but I don't know how common it is for people to be on both. Hope you get this sorted, good luck!

I ws on paxil and found it didn't work. Then switched to just anxiety medicine. Currently on Valiums 10 mgs and they seem to help both my depression and anxiety.. if the anxiety is higher than the depression tell your Doc that and he'llput you on Valiums or Xanax.
Workin for me
Good luck

There are many alternative methods to never get anxiety or panic attacks. I would recommend trying natural methods or even trying a digital online course- designed to help suffers like yourself. Its much cost effective then expensive meds.

If you are having issues with medication, you need to discuss it with your doctor.
I have PTSD also, and therapy plays a big part in recovery, and/or managing the illness, hon.
Depression and anxiety go hand-in-hand... usually when a person suffers one, they have issues with the other condition.
Take care.

Yes you can be on both. Your therapist will decide this based on each individuals need. I was taking Zoloft and xanex...Zoloft alone did not help with the panic attacks alone. Hope this helps.
