What can you tell me about South Korea that only insiders would know?

Make an effort to learn some basic Korean before visiting the country. Westerners who don't bother to make the slightest effort to learn "hello", "thank you", and "excuse me" are considered rude. Koreans don't like to hear English speakers expect natives to understand English. Get a basic travel pocket guide to quick and easy Korean if you want to get on their good side. Open air markets like Namdaemun and Dongdaemun often have 2 different prices - one for Korean natives, and jacked up prices for Westerners who don't know how to speak the language. Take along a Korean speaking friend with you if you plan to do some bargain hunting.

koreans really want to be a 1st-world nation/culture, but aren't sure how to get there withotu imitating westerners. It is a status, or "cool" thing to buy that $4 coffee and hang out in Starbucks , but they struggle because they are also full of criticism for teh American way of life.
this generation of Kroeans is in teh process of finding themselves and deciding what it means to be a modern Korean.

If you are Korean-American, Korean-Canadian or Korean-anything else you will NEVER be thought of in South Korea as a true Korean. Even if you speak perfect Korean, understand the culture and have lived in Korea most of your life, it doesn't matter. You're simply not one of them.

Their eyes slant downwards, I guess. Too many people mistake my Korean friends for Chinese and Japanese.

koreans generally live and die by the slogan "its all about me/us"
if they do it good great......if not....what do you expect.....and dont get me started on a buffet at the airport....hahahaha.....they can be rude while they smile.....
