Sounds like ear mites. Good for you for taking your poor cat to the vet because they are the only ones that can give you medicine strong enough to kill the mites. You can buy all you want of the store brand ear mite meds, but they won't help, and anyways the vets could end up being cheaper .

Your kitty definitely has ear mites. Both my cats had them.....it's simply treated once with ear drops by the vet.....then they're all set. The other big give away that it's ear mites....is if you look in their ears, there will be this black cruddy stuff that look like scabs, but in fact it's just the stuff that houses the ear mites.

I'm glad your taking him to the vets. I'm not saying this now to frighten you but so you can mention it to the vet. Last year my cat was shaking her head occaisionally not all the time and i thought maybe she had an itch anyway i went on my hols and put my cats [sisters] in the cattery left my friends number with them and i gave my friend the telephone number to the man at the pet cemetry i said to her you won't need it but just in case and i asked her should anything happen to one of them not to leave the other one in there. I thought i was just thinking of the worse. On the day we were returning i had a text asking what time i landed i knew then something was wrong. I called my friend to be told that 2 days after going on hols my darling little Newcie had been taken ill it turns out she had a brain tumour and died the next day. To this day i hate myself for not getting her checked i thought she had an itch i kept thinking if i hadn't gone away she would be ok but she wouldn't have. I think now i get on my vets nerves the slightest little thing with Karla her sister i'm there at vets and usually its nothing i'm just so scared. Everyday that goes by i miss Newcie its their 3rd birthday today i've been the grave to sit with her for half hour. Anyway all i wanted to say is ask them about tumours and things like that they can sometimes see by looking in their eyes. I hope all goes well.

He most likely has ear mites, here is a quick fix for the night so he doesn't cut himself open again. Take a q-tip and dip it in either olive oil or sweet oil and clean the inside of his ear with it. The oil lubricates the ear to where the mites can't latch on and bite him. It really does help, have used on all my cats plus I can't stand to see them itching their ears like that.
Good luck

Could be earmites, an ear infection, or simply earache. anyway, you're doing the right thing taking your cat along to the vet,he will advise the best treatment, possibly antibiotics, and maybe an earwash too.

Sounds like an ear infection. Does your cats ear have a funny smell to them? It could be mites as well.

You will probably find out that your cat has either an ear infection or mites in his ear. They are both easily treated by your vet, so don't worry

Have a look and see if you can see a grass seed or something in there. Dont poke around - if you cant see anything let the vet do it tomorrow. Otherwise he might just have an ear infection.

It's most likely either an ear infection or earmites. He definitely needs to see a vet though because it's obviously bothering him.
