The predictions say that in about only 100 years the poles are going to melt. Everyone will loose their homes, animals will extinct and plants will disappear... Carbon Dioxide will heat up the earth, weather will change, with no plants oxygen will decrease, how will be survive? There is no other planet capable to sustain life to go! even with the technology it is impossible, 100 years are just around the corner, I am 23 years old + 100 years = 123, I wont see it, but I will witness the beginning of the 8th mass extinction episode of earth... my kids will live on it, and my grandchildren will have to live through it. Why we keep killing our planet and our future generations... this is murder!!!!! STOP! Green house gasses...lets put a end...

why we keep destroying our home?

First of all, a prediction is just that. Second, we "destroy" our planet in the name of profits, as we haven't figured out a way to live sustainably and garner a modest profit at the same time. Greed and lack of planning seem to be at the forefront of our lives, and it's time -- past time -- to do something about that.

You're young enough that you can learn about the issues involved in detail and become part of the solution, rather than being part of the problem. We may not be able to reverse the impacts of human-related climate change within the timeframe you specify, but it is definitely possible to slow it down to more tolerable levels. This means changes in lifestyle at the personal, local, national, and international levels. It means paying, literally, for our mistakes by finding mechanisms to fund viable solutions with technology that exists and is in advanced stages of development.

There's a lot of propaganda and hype, name-calling, finger-pointing, and foaming-at-the-mouth on all sides of the issue, especially within the walls of this site. So just set all of that aside and educate yourself, share what you learn, and go from there.

Check out the links below. These gentlemen have given me fresh hope with their proposal.

I was just doing some reading on this subject and found a very telling article stating data taken from the Vostok, Antarctica ice core. The graph plainly show a pattern of regularly rising and falling temperatures over that last 400k years. According to the graph we are currently in that time period where the temperatures have historically been rising. I found two interesting differences in this data. First, the time from the start of the warming period to the peak was about 10k years 330k years ago, then about 5k years 240k years ago, and about 3k years 140k years ago. This current warming trend appeared to start about 15k years ago and has 2 degrees Celsius to go until the peak so how can scientists be telling us we are in the fastest warming period in the history of the planet? Another interesting point on the graph is the obvious huge increase in CO2 doesn't seem to be causing any temperature difference in the long run. I am assuming someone will come along to tell me this is false data or that I am reading the wrong conclusions from it, but looking at that graph, it really is hard to believe anything out of the ordinary is going on.

Did you know that during the early 11th Century (1000ish AD) Greenland was a lush and populated continent with farmland as far as the eye could see and thriving villages dotting the country side (which is why the Nordic Vikings named it "Greenland"). And, because this was around 1000 AD, it was well before the Industrial Revolution and all these man made pollutants going into the atmosphere.

Yet now, in 2007 and during the great hype of "global warming"...Greenland is covered in a tundra - essentially a layer of frost (permafrost) that never melts. Now...in all honesty...how hot would it have to be in the 1000 AD-era for Greenland to not only be free of tundra, but also be a thriving agricultural area of the world?

Global warming is happening, yes. Global warming has happened in cycles with global cooling (did you know the first Earth Day was about global cooling?) since the Earth was formed from space dust very likely. What we contribute is minor to what Mother Earth Herself contributes in pollutants to the air.

We are caught in the middle of a natural cycle of temperature change that we, as humans, have little control over. The world naturally heats up and cools off.

And you can't trust predictions.

Don't forget that during Galileo's time, we KNEW the Earth was the center of the universe. We were wrong.

During Columbus' time, we KNEW the Earth was flat. We were wrong.

And now, in 2007, we KNOW that in 100 years the poles will melt and life as we know it will change. Could we possibly be wrong again?

Predictions are wonderful things. When I was a kid, we were supposed to be driving flying cars by 2007. Robots would be commonplace in homes and industry. Cancer would be cured.

Do you ever question the computer models used to make those global warming predictions? Do you ever wonder about the assumptions made to get results from them? Do you wonder how they modeled the complexity of ocean currents? Do you wonder how they model the evaporation rate of warmer water and its result on cloud formation?

If you haven't, you should. Predicting anything about the long range climate change via a computer model is pretty much equivalent to looking at a crystal ball. There is no earthly way that computer models can accurately predict something as immense and complex as the global climate. Basing actions on them, especially actions that either tinker with nature or the worlds' economies, is inadvisable as best, suicidal at worst.

This is just some liberal BS. Global warming i believe is not real, but that the earth takes its normal cycle of warmer temps and colder temps every couple thousand years. And we humans make up less than ( 4% ) of the Co2 emissions on the earth. most is done by plants and micro organisms. May be we should cut down the trees to lower the co2 levels. Or make so type of bacteria to kill the small orgamisms and cause undecayed animals lying around every where undecomposed. There is some food for thought for you. Ok its a hundard years till the greenland ice starts to melt says scientist.

The problem is when we invented convenient stuff like cars we never knew its negative points. We cried over spilled milk. Yes we can do it before a hundred years if we work together!
Let us get together and control pollution before life is no trace!

Remember in the 70s, on the first Earth Day, when they promoted the whacky idea that the imminent ice age was the greatest threat to mankind just because in the preceding 30 years the earth had cooled? That's exactly what man made global warming is, myth anchored in hype and politically motivated pretend science by the media and others who stand to profit, nothing more, nothing less, and here is some of the evidence:

MYTH 1: The earth is warming faster and more than expected in this natural warming cycle.

This, one the most elemental factors in the man made global warming theory, has turned out to be completely unfounded. I know you probably think that this is a given fact grounded firmly in solid science, but oops, it's not. I too believed it because this "fact" went unchallenged in the media for so long, and continues to be stated as fact even today after it's been clearly shown to be very suspect at best.

The most recent, and supposedly most "accurate", temperature statistics used by the IPCC and quoted by Gore in his “An Inconvenient Truth” movie were taken primarily around urban areas. Unfortunately, because urban areas are cleared of plant life and mostly covered by concrete, these readings are far warmer than actual regional temperatures. In some documented cases, up to 10 degrees warmer! Studies using atmospheric temperature readings from satellites, supported and verified over 30 years by US, British, and Russian scientists, show completely normal and expected temperature increases from this completely normal, and expected, natural warming cycle. This normal warming is part of the cycle that has followed the “little ice age” and is expected, cyclical, and not at all threatening. Shocking isn't it? Are you shaking your head at my naïveté? CHECK IT OUT! No peer reviewed scientific publication has ever challenged these 30 year studies!

MYTH 2: Studies show that increases in the level of CO2 in the atmosphere has historically lead to higher temperatures.

Nope. I looked up the graphs and charts and ice core studies used by Al Gore and the IPCC. I read article after article discussing these studies. The truth is that CO2 increases in the atmosphere BECAUSE of increased temperatures, not the other way around. The afore mentioned studies prove this fact. Al Gore knew it, but he failed to mention this fact. The increase in CO2 comes AFTER the rise in temperature and as much as 800 years AFTER the rise in temperature! Why does the CO2 go up? Most likely because the warmer temperatures cause greater evaporation which releases CO2 from the oceans. Freaky isn't it? It's true! CHECK IT OUT! All of the graphs used by the IPCC and Al Gore, the ice core samples, the geographical studies, they all show this to be true! Actually, CO2 is .035% of all “greenhouse” gases and is completely natural and necessary for life on earth. Has it gone up recently? YES, slightly. Is that the cause for the recent warming? There is NO evidence, and I do mean NO evidence, supporting that theory.

MYTH 3: The IPCC report that Al Gore constantly refers to, and bases almost all of his arguments upon, supports the man made global warming theory.

True. Well, kind of. The scientists who backed this report wrote: “None of the studies cited above has shown clear evidence that we can attribute the observed climate changes to increases in greenhouse gases.” and “No study to date has positively attributed all or part of the climate change to man–made causes”. Unfortunately, the bureaucrats who wrote the UN summary in order to support the politically and monetarily advantageous Kyoto Accord, that all of this man made global warming myth originated from, dropped these factual statements from the studies. If that deception weren’t bad enough, Al Gore actually AIR BRUSHED out the graph line that proved his entire radical temperature increase argument to be false! He removed it from his big wall size chart and he AIR BRUSHED it out of the actual report! SICK! CHECK IT OUT!

MYTH 4: Glaciers, ice shelves, and the poles are warming and the ice is melting resulting in higher sea levels.

Not true. Not even close. Sea levels haven’t risen on average globally AT ALL. Check the facts. Most ice covered areas are not warmer and are actually growing. Shocking? I know! There are some limited areas of ice that are warmer, but so what? Is that abnormal? No! These areas grew during the little ice age and now they are shrinking. Kilimanjaro, which Al Gore highlights in his movie, hasn’t warmed at all, has been receding for over a century due to lower precipitation and cloud cover, and is but one of the many completely bogus facts he presents. He says that receding ice is drowning polar bears, with a long and sad animation of polar bears swimming around looking for ice, when the truth is that the whole scene was based on 4 bears that drowned in a storm! Lake Chad, which he talks about for some time in his movie, is shrinking for many proven reasons, like irrigation, overuse, and local warming, that have nothing to do with global warming! The UN warns us of inches of sea level rise in the next century and he pretended that a 20 FT rise was imminent! The truth is that there may be some rise due to our natural warming period and it may even encroach a foot onto your favorite beach at high tide! A 20 foot rise, under the most aggressive and erroneous calculations, would take a Millennium!
