I just have a quick question for some really strong pain in my toe. I play basketball for a team and i play almost every other day for 4+hours. My big toenails have always been bad from being stepped on etc etc. The sides of them where they meet the skin of my big toe is where i always have had problems. The toenail is always broken off or loose in that spot etc etc. Well I got stupid and picked a part of my toenail ( my left big toe the right side of the nail where it meets the skin) and pulled off some of it on the end of it. Two days later the skin to the right is really red the pain is some of the worst pain I have ever felt in my toes. I cant sleep when my toe touches anything it is instant pain. Just Sitting around I have terrible throbbing pain. Can someone try to explain what this is and if something can be done to lessen the pain

I recommend you see a Podiatrist as soon as possible, because infections in the toes are the most difficult to get rid of. These types of infections can lead to much more serious problems. You're going to feel a lot better after you see the Podiatrist.

sounds like you pulled off a little skin, too, and let bacteria in so it is infected, soak it in epsom salt, clean with alcohol, and cover with neosporin and a bandage, and don't wear tight shoes ... clean it and reapply neosporin twice a day ...

it sounds similiar to an ingrown toenail, too, but that takes longer than 2 days ... though if youi have chronic problems, you may have them ingrown already ... have you had a doctor look at them ever?
