Initial cost...anywhere from free (if you're REALLY good friends with the breeder/an owner), to several thousands of dollars (for a show quality dog with a registered pedigree).
Additional costs...for shots and (possible) spaying/neutering is another couple hundred, and should (for shots) be done within a few days to weeks of taking possession. For males, they should not be spayed before they start displaying sexual acts (humping). For females, they should not be neutered until after their first heat.
Anual costs... less that a kid. :D For food and toys, and a periodic vet check-up (along with supplimental shots), you're probably looking at maybe a grand a year.
Just remember, smaller dogs also have specialised needs and problems. While they (generally) don't have some of the medical problems of larger breeds, they do have other problems, like the inability to withstand cold temperatures as well...their bodies just throw heat away like Paris Hilton on a shopping spree... So, if you're looking for a "low maintenance" dog, buy a Labrador, a Shepard, or another medium or larger sized dog - just make sure to go for a breed known for brains and personality.

Breed standard is 4 to 7 pounds. The price can vary depending on the puppies backround and where you get it. Many times the smaller ones will cost quite a lot, but they are also frowned upon in the show ring because they are not within the standard weight for the breed.

attempt a rescue team on your section for that breed. they could have a internet site. money-clever, you may desire to contemplate in spite of in case you have got the money for high quality nutrition and scientific care. A $2k dogs is not greater suited than a $2 hundred dogs. you may in basic terms be waiting to assert you paid $2k. and that i wouldn't in any respect tell absolutely everyone I paid that plenty for a dogs.

There is no such thing as a "toy" maltese. If you run across a BYB selling one -- RUN. They are selling you a sick runt.

Varies. You should ask yourself if you intend to breed it, beacuse you can get a cheap one that doesnt have papers.
