As long as he has all of his vaccinations, now would be fine.

The sooner the better so the groomer can get used to the dog and the dog can get used to groomers. Keep practising picking up and putting the paw down so the puppy gets used to the action so the groomer can do his claws. Put a hair dryer by the dog so it can get used to the noise, as the groomer will use one (obviously one specially made for dogs) and brush the dog often. All of this will help the groomer and the dog. Recommendations are all a good thing to have, and make sure you tell them exactly what you want!

Personally I like to start them at 12 weeks (after their 2nd of 3 sets of puppy shots) with a simple no body clipping process called a "bath & tidy". This is a butt, belly, feet & eyes trim with a shampoo and blow dry. This is a minimal groom that I like to do twice a month for 2 months and then at 4-5 months old, give the first "Teddy Bear" haircut. I charge 15 dollars instead of the 40 I charge for a haircut. It is a "less stress" way to get them used to the sights, sounds & smells of the groomer and shop. They get used to the bathing, drying and cage process without the stress of the noisy vibrating clippers. After they are comfortable with the bath & tidy I introduce them to the clippers gently. This extra time and effort pays off in the long run 10 fold. If you pup is already in need of a haircut, don't expect perfection until your dog gets used to it. Maybe take him in a few times in between clippings to help overcome the (what will most likely be) a stressful first time he gets groomed. Good luck to you both!

Fi ve months is fine. I usually start mine at around that age. The groomer doesn't do a full service groom, she keeps them for a few hours to get used to the situation ... a wash and trim first time then works up to full service. Some dogs are really scared when they go in for the first time so working up to it is usually best. If the pup's unhappy, the owner's upset.

Now is a good time, if he is all caught up on his shots.
The sooner you start taking them to the groomers the easier it will be on your dog. Getting them use to it while they are still a puppy is the best thing you can do.. If you wait til they are older and try to take them...it is too much stress on the little guy. *new place, dont know the people*
its just much easier on your pet and the groomer to start them young as possible.

I would say now is good if I know someone I try to get thenm in about 3 months just so the pup can get use to it instead of wiating till it gets older.I prefer to see them at least by 6 months if possible.

Take him now. I made mistake of waiting too long with my bichon, and he freaked out and hated the whole thing, was very naughty! groomer said earlier they get used to it the better.

I would definitely start now. I used to groom dogs and with a dog that is going to require a lot of grooming it is easier to teach them when they're young. We used to get puppy's as young as 8 weeks to groom.

Right away. The sooner you get them accustomed to this the less stressful it is for them.
